What are the responsibilities and job description for the Platform Engineer, SRE position at Capital One?
As a Platform Engineer, you will engage with the development teams and horizontal organizations while providing guidance and technical stewardship. As a member of our team you will help align and integrate enterprise objectives with broader organizational objectives. Platform Engineers listen and discover ways to help promote the availability of services and applications, improve processes through remediation of manual and/or repetitive tasks, and solve complex technical problems in a fast-paced, collaborative, inclusive, and iterative delivery environment.
The candidate will support the Enterprise Data and Machine Learning Line of Business and will be responsible for identifying, managing, improving and reporting on availability, resiliency, reliability and stability efficiencies. This includes providing technical guidance and leadership to drive solutions, create & enhance processes that deliver excellence to your customer every time. A strong relationship with Enterprise teams such as Resiliency & Recovery, Architecture, Technical Operation Center, Delivery experience and SRE teams is necessary to support core objectives. You will contribute to the critical advancements in the simplification, standardization and automation strategy for key controls.
What You’ll Do:
Manage end-to-end large scale resiliency and data recovery events for our organization and contribute to resolving gaps and issues
Contribute to the Continuous improvement of software engineering practices
Ensure Capital One best practices and methodologies are applied throughout the lifecycle of the application
Provide & lead the design, deployment, automation and scripting solutions to drive new capabilities, visibility, and efficiency across our LOB
Influencing resiliency and scalability in production environments in Amazon Web Services and other cloud platforms
Collaborate with other technical platforms and partners to engineer an integrated, end-to-end solution that supports frameworks across technology layers (availability, reliability, and performance)
Establishing cross-training initiatives to provide enhanced automated support capabilities
Provide technical leadership and guidance around DevOps best practices
Identify opportunities to reduce manual deployment and validation efforts
Ensure compliance with departmental and enterprise standards
Provide direct support of audit and ad hoc consulting engagements
Assist with support and make sure the system is up and running (ad hoc)
Identifying and remediate risk to critical and non-critical system KPIs
Help solve problems related to mission-critical services and contribute to solutions to prevent problem recurrence; with the goal of automated response to all non-exceptional service conditions
Communicate to business and technical partners on incidents as they occur when they impact system performance or availability at a critical level

A solid understanding of cloud based solutions and services in AWS
A solid understanding of what comprises a scalable, robust, supportable design
Experience with utilizing monitoring solutions, such as New Relic, Splunk to reduce outages
An ability to work in a flexible work environment that embraces rapid change, emphasizes continuous learning, and attacks new challenges
An ability to work as part of an integrated team that is geographically dispersed, as well as work independently as required
Familiarity utilizing REST APIs
Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code methodologies and tools
Proficient knowledge of common DevOps tools Git/Github, Jenkins, and Containers
Familiarity with automating software deployments and following a continuous delivery and deployment (CI/CD) model
Basic Qualifications:
High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent certification
At least 2 years experience deploying and supporting CI/CD
At least 2 years experience with AWS
At least 1 year experience building Linux Commands
At least 2 years experience building and deploying software with Jenkins and Git
At least 1 year experience deploying applications using Docker or kubernetes
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree
3 years experience with AWS
2 years experience building Linux Commands
1 year experience with monitoring tools (Splunk, Datadog or New Relic)
1 year experience with Terraform or CFT
AWS Solutions Architect Associate Certification or AWS Developer Associate Certification
2 years of experience in Agile practices

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.
Location is New York City • $108,669 and $128,205 for Platform EngineerCandidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate’s offer letter.
