What are the responsibilities and job description for the Solutions Architect position at Capital One?
As an Architect for Enterprise Monitoring and Workflow (EMW), you will be solving impactful technical problems. These are things that are hard to change later, the decisions that are important, and we’d better get right across our ~100 apps portfolio. EMW offers dozens of complex products to our clients, and we build solutions for them as well as our associates that support them. An architect is someone that together with Product and Design shapes the products we build, down to the long list of quality attributes that include resiliency, security, and observability. An architect is a chief designer, someone that thinks in systems and takes into account org design, skill sets, timelines, and technology.
We have a polyglot landscape and rely heavily on Open Source Software & Commercial Off The shelf (CoTs), building with Go, JavaScript, Python, Java, .NET Core, sql, bash, React and Angular; we use Kafka, Restful APIs, Docker & Kubernetes, we store our data in fit for purpose databases (graph, relational, document), and run all of it on the public cloud across multiple regions. We also perform system integration with ServiceNow, Splunk, JiRA, New Relic, and PagerDuty. Our teams are cross-functional and we use Domain-Driven Design to help us manage complexity.
This is a challenging role that requires a wide breadth of experience and knowledge. You need to be able to form a vision, back it up with your own lessons learned and technical expertise, communicate it well using many techniques at your disposal, succeed in influencing the teams and their leadership, and finally prove out architecture by working alongside the teams. In addition, we will rely on your thought leadership and evangelism to help the EMW keep an eye out for new tech as well as implement best engineering practices. You need to be proactive, hands-on, and constructive.
Responsibilities:
Work across multiple lines of business within EMW, partnering with other architects. Bring in a larger context to 50 software teams across EMW and guide their architecture evolution.
Influence Capital One Enterprise architecture and infrastructure, implementing their initiatives in EMW as well as bringing our requirements to them
