JobOverview
CapitolDebate Summer Camps is seeking Junior Instructors / ResidentialAdvisors for our summer camps running from June 14 to August 72025.
We host camps in 15 cities throughout the country offering agreat travel opportunity. This role combines instructional dutieswith responsibilities in residential life.
Applicants must be ableand willing to live on campus during the camp duration. Staff mustbe available a minimum of 6 weeks during the summer to beconsidered.
Responsibilities
InstructionalDuties not limitedto :
- Mentorand assist with the planning and implementation of residentialactivities
- Helpstudents with research writing their cases or presentations andprovidefeedback
- Judgestudent competitions and help facilitate studentshowcases
ResidentialLife Duties not limitedto :
- Actas a mediator encourager cheerleader mentor and motivator inresidential lifeactivities
- Ensureactive student participation and supervise student safety in allactivities and dormlife.
- Assistwith planning and implementation of residentialactivities.
GeneralDuties not limitedto :
- Attendall staff meetings during thecamp
- Assistwith first and lastday camp ceremonies and activities includingsetting up ofmaterials
- Provideany additional support as requested by Camp Director or ResidentialLifeDirectors
TimeCommitment
- Participatein approximately 10 hours of precamp training focused on camp andresidentiallife
- Attenda minimum of 3 2 week camp sessions totaling 6 weeks ofcamp.
Requirements
Requirements&Experience
Counselors / juniorinstructors are often current college students or recent highschool graduates with a background in public speaking and debate(including activities like DECA Model UN and Mock Trials).
Experience working in youthbased programs is a plus. Requiredattendance at training sessions and planning meetings leading up toour summer program including an allstaff orientation and trainingon Day 0.
Returning Counselors are eligible for increasedresponsibilities and compensation. Staff may need to walk longdistances under summer conditions and share dorm rooms with fellowcounselors of the samegender.
- Highschool graduate or equivalent(Preferred)
- Fullyvaccinated
- Experiencein oral advocacy activities such as Speech and Debate Mock TrialModel United Nations or similar(Required)
- Experienceworking at a summer camp : 1 year(Preferred)
- CompetitivePublic speaking : 2 years(Required)
Compensationis set and will be discussed duringinterview
