General Summary: Special Attendant (Caregiver)
Assisting clients in the activities of daily living and helping clients with personal hygiene requirements. Providing supervision of activities and assisting when necessary for protection from harm. Report all significant changes in the client’s circumstances to the immediate supervisor within twenty-four (24) hours of awareness of occurrence or by the next working day. Reports emergency/life-endangering situations to the client’s family, physician, and/or health officials within one (1) hour of awareness. Must be responsible for conscientiously watching for safety hazards and acting immediately to remove the risk of danger while on duty. Responsible for keeping time, documentation required by participating regulatory agencies and policies of the agency. Refraining from administrating medications to the client during working hours if not delegated to do so by the RN supervisor. Performing all assigned tasks in compliance with the agency’s policies, rules or procedures. Following all HIPAA Rules and Regulations with regard to patient privacy and confidentiality. Must be responsible to maintain confidentiality with regard to the client and the client’s affairs. Position can be called upon to perform other duties as assigned.
Job Skills and Abilities:
Must have the ability to follow instructions; must be able to speak and understand the English language. Being bilingual is a plus. Requires a valid Texas driver's license.
Qualifications:
Education and/or experience equivalent to graduation from High School or GED equivalent. Position prefers six months of experience in direct client care in an institutional setting (hospital or nursing facility); delivery of personal care tasks in personal assistance services, family or primary home care; or substitutions must be registered as a nurse’s aide on the Texas Dept. of Health Nurses Aide Registry; or completed the competency training evaluation program for home health aides. Prefer experience in the home health field.
