Technical Trainer

DEPARTMENT: Product Management
REPORTS TO: Sr. Director, Product Management

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION: The Technical Trainer develops and conducts technical and related training programs for internal and/or external customers using both online distance learning and in-classroom formats. In-classroom training may be conducted at a Company facility or off-site, as needed. This role assists in the creation of training programs and the demonstration of necessary procedures/techniques by applying their individual technical knowledge and following course outlines. The Technical Trainer contributes to the training effectiveness of the group, while maintaining their own levels of expertise in instructional design and delivery techniques, product knowledge and curriculums.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage the creation, development, maintenance and delivery of technical training materials for instructor-led and web-based training. This includes presentation materials, instructor guides, hands-on exercises, exams, and course evaluations/surveys.
  • Present information, using a variety of instructional techniques and formats such as role-playing, simulations, team exercises, group discussions, videos and lectures.
  • Develop and deliver all training materials in a professional and effective manner.
  • Interface extensively with colleagues in Customer Service, Engineering, Manufacturing, and Sales & Marketing to develop and maintain technical expertise on Capstone products, keep abreast of ongoing product development, and accurately assess customer training needs.
  • Maintain all training demonstration systems, tools, and applications.
  • Ensuring training records are maintained within the LMS database.
  • Maintain instructional and presentational competencies to be able to conduct any of the available training courses.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Proficient using MS Office applications including Outlook, Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
  • Video recording and editing.
  • Experience with multimedia applications and course authoring tools such as:
    • TechSmith Camtasia
    • Articulate 360
    • Learning Management Systems
  • Excellent oral/written communication and customer relations skills, including presentation and facilitation skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic, entrepreneurial environment where growth and professionalism will be achieved largely through creativity, high integrity, reasoned and thoughtful judgment, sense of urgency, a balance between strategic and tactical skills, and a willingness to “roll up the sleeves.”
  • Knowledge and experience in control systems, power electronics and/or gas turbines.
  • Demonstrate technical aptitude and an ability to rapidly learn new technologies, including both hardware and software.
  • Ability to extract detailed information by reading and interpreting technical data/documents, interviewing Subject Matter Experts, and presenting such information in an easily understood technical, graphical and/or hands-on format.
  • Availability to travel up to 25% of the time, including international travel.
  • Must be fluent in English. Spanish as a second language would be an asset.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical field, preferably electronics, or equivalent experience with electronics or electromechanical controls. Will consider practical, hands-on knowledge and experience equivalent in lieu of a degree.
  • Experience in testing, troubleshooting, maintaining, and/or repairing equipment in an electrical or power generation environment is highly desired.
  • Certified in an approved instructor training program and/or minimum 2 years’ experience of informal (adult) training; industrial, vocational or technical training.
  • Existing experience with Capstone product line is highly desired.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear; taste or smell.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Required to sit for long periods of time. Extensive use of a computer.
  • Extensive travel may be required.

The pay range for this position is $84,880 - $103,000 per year.
