Job Description
Shelter Support Staff provides support to shelter residents during the evening and overnight hours. A general summary of responsibilities include providing a safe, clean environment while supporting guests utilizing the overnight inclement weather program, documenting any safety/security concerns and rule violations.
Status: Part-Time Seasonal
Availability: 28 hours per week
Areas of Responsibility:
- Empower guests and provide support and crisis intervention through trauma informed care.
- Ability to provide resource information or triage questions for guests and guest families that we serve.
- Communicate necessary guest information to the dayshift, mainly if an overnight guest would like to meet for case management for further resources and referrals.
- Follow and enforce shelter guidelines, policies and procedures with the guests.
- Support and assist guests with their shelter needs as they arise (ex. Hygiene products, cleaning supplies, clothing etc).
- Maintain safety and security of shelter property and report to the on-call or authorities if need be.
- Ensure privacy and safety of the guests by not confirming identity.
- Maintain the cleanliness of the shelter by performing housekeeping tasks as outline on the overnight task list.
- Complete shelter upkeep duties as assigned.
- Complete shadowing task as assigned when new team members join the support staff.
- Attend regularly scheduled meetings and trainings.
- Maintain positive, supportive guest relationships.

Qualifications:
- Strong organizational skills
- Ability to establish and maintain professional boundaries with the guests we serve
- Ability to thrive in flexible fast paced and growth oriented environment while maintaining a positive solution oriented and client centered approach
- Experience in crisis intervention and problem solving with the ability to diffuse situations without heightening the conflict
- Understanding or willingness to train in areas such as trauma informed care, diversity, equity and inclusion.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of guests
- Strong interpersonal skills, ability to be compassionate and firm when interacting with the guests we serve
- Ability to accurately record information for required client and staff documentation while maintaining guest confidentiality and strong boundaries
- Ability to navigate Google Docs, Microsoft products, and general office equipment
- Ability to lift up 25 pounds independently
- Ability to walk, climb, or descend stairs, kneel, bend, twist.
- Ability to pass a criminal background check
