Junior Property Accountant


JOB DESCRIPTION



With a hands-on approach, actively participate in a fast-paced environment, responsible for the full accounting of financial activities for multifamily rental properties in an assigned portfolio. This will include, but is not limited to, the input and/or verification of all source information through the reviewed publication of monthly financial statements and supporting information in a defined timeline.

Essential Functions

  • Ensure the timely and accurate completion of financial statements for each property in the assigned portfolio
  • Perform analysis of all Balance Sheet accounts including all bank accounts, A-R, A-P, Escrow and Reserve accounts and resolve all reconciling items and minimum levels in a timely manner
  • Create actual-to-budget variance reports and work with property managers on researching variances
  • Review all property and tenant-based reports to ensure accuracy, including cash activity, delinquencies, prepaid and bad debt
  • Prepare for and participate in the annual property budget and audit process
  • Provide support and assistance to the Property and Asset Management Group
  • Gather and download various supporting documents from website
  • Assist with entry of invoices for Accounts Payables
  • Perform special projects and other duties as assigned

Supervisory Responsibility


This position does not have supervisory responsibility and reports to the Property Accounting Manager or Assistant Controller of Property Management.

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional open office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk, hear and comprehend. The employee frequently is required to sit for lengths of time, stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Standard office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m., however, a flexible work schedule may be approved after a probationary or training period. Additional hours are expected during busier periods (i.e. month-end, audit, budget).

Travel

No regular travel is expected for this position. However, local travel between the Madison and Milwaukee offices may be required on occasion, as well as travel for training.

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Associate Degree (or higher) in Accounting
  • One to three years of accounting experience
  • Experience in property management accounting
  • Knowledge of Low Income and Affordable Housing Programs (e.g., HUD section 8 subsidized housing, IRS section 42 (LIHTC Program), HOME funds, Rural Development).
  • Knowledge and experience with property management software, which includes tenant ledgers and accounting ledgers.
