Supervisor/Engineering Staff

The Supervisor/Engineering Staff is responsible for implementing daily activities in line with the strategic direction of the Company’s Engineering and Operations functions.  This position ensures objectives are achieved by supervising staff-based programs and coordinating with division operations management.   

POSITION DIMENSIONS

Reporting directly to this position are typically up to three exempt and/or non-exempt employees. This incumbent will exchange information with Senior Officers, functional Directors and Managers at the Division and Corporate levels, vendors, manufacturers and other utility representatives.  This position can also supervise field personnel associated with Engineering Staff.

QUALIFICATIONS

There are clear precedents and practices which the incumbent uses to determine how this job is performed. This position requires five to seven of relevant work experience.  A Bachelor of Science degree in engineering or related field from an accredited university is required.

 ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

• Supervise, coordinate, and monitor work activities of exempt, non-exempt, and contractor individuals in implementing existing and new standards
• Prepare performance appraisals, goals, hiring, and administrate disciplinary coaching or other corrective actions
• Develop  and  provide  guidance  to  workgroup  personnel  (Division, temporary Contractors, and Interns)
• Represent Company in industry workgroups including committee meetings, task groups and best practices workshops
• Lead company-based committees and working groups supporting staff-based programs
• Develop and prepare corporate design standards, review and approve non-standard designs  and work requests pursuant to Company Standard Practices from the operating divisions
• Review and approve waivers from operations manual and design standards requirements from the operating divisions
• Write and review technical instructions
• Develop and prepare corporate material specifications, review , research and approve gas-carrying materials for purchase by the corporation
• Perform evaluations of gas-carrying material suppliers
• Develop protocols for evaluating and testing new and failed materials and evaluate material failure test results and determine root causes for material failures
• Evaluate material performance and make recommendations for improvement
• Perform and validate engineering calculations
• Coordinate and review engineering analysis necessary to investigate new projects
• Prepare and analyze operating data in support of transmission and distribution pipeline integrity policies and procedures
• Prepare  and  assess  project  requests  detailing  proposed  engineering  work  costs  and  project timetable
• Coordinate and provide oversight on special projects
• Prepare and oversee contract administration documents
• Communicate project status to appropriate departments
• Assist in the preparation and updating of the three year budget plan and budget variance reporting
• Represent Company in state and federal compliance audits and respond to data requests
• Perform related duties and responsibilities as assigned

SALARY DETAILS

$96,400 - $144,600
