Job Summary:
Directs, plans, and organizes the staff and activities of the Health Information Management (HIM) department. Oversees multidisciplinary operations and staff in support of the efficient operation of the HIM department.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Directs and coordinates activities to ensure optimal and efficient execution of key functions which align to projected goals.
- Works with the Sr. Director of Revenue Cycle to oversees timeliness and accuracy of the suspension process for optimal physician communication, compliance and satisfaction regarding chart completion activities. Tracks and reports the delinquency rate for the Health Information Management Committee and report to the Chief Medical Officer.
- Directs, designs, monitors and improves the workflow and processes within and between HIM operations areas: Chart Completion, Data Integrity, Document Scanning and Release of Medical Information. Works with HIM Application team to implement features and functions to support HIM operations.
- Advises operational and project leaders on key HIM concepts to support or supplement project work such as retention of records, storage, conversion of data, and disclosures of information.
- Works with Legal, Risk Management, Compliance and Privacy to advise on HIM concepts related to issues or activities such as regulatory compliance, legal cases, policy review, integrity of information, amendments, restrictions, confidentiality, and other important organization activities.
- Participates in and facilitates meetings to assure health information, privacy and documentation standards are adhered to within the organization’s programs and services. Communicates overall IT/HIM vision and HIM standards.
- Functions as the key point person and subject matter expert pertaining to management and integrity of patient information and medical records for intra and interdepartmental collaborative projects. Applies competencies and knowledge of clinical and operational support systems to design workflows and structure processes to achieve desired project goals.
- Acts as a liaison to foster open communications between HIM and Department Chairs, Program Directors, Nursing, Medical Staff, Administration, and various other hospital departments impacted by data integrity, document scanning, record completion and release of information activities.
- Manages HIM Committee activities including identifying topics, participating in solution teams, working with CMO and Clinical informatics and/or Information Management to drive key decisions, document, educate and monitor.
- Participates in strategic and tactical planning and assist with integration of specific departmental needs into the overall information management plan.
- Functions as liaison with Human Resources and Labor Relations relative to staff recruitment, development, performance evaluations, and disciplinary actions. Interview, hires, orients, trains, evaluates, counsels, disciplines, and terminates staff.
- Performs various other related duties as may be deemed necessary or as directed by Sr Director of Revenue Cycle

Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited college in Health Information Administration, or equivalent experience.
Certification by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) either as a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) or a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) is required.
Experience supervising a Health Information Management Department or unit.
Must have extensive operational knowledge of electronic health records and implementation.
