Principal Accountabilities
- Perform routine daily tasks in a laboratory environment, as well as time spent collecting samples on the production floor in multiple departments. Exposure to hot and cold temperatures
- Receive and process samples in a timely manner and record identifying information on specified forms. Assists in the release and verification of production product
- Perform all lab tests according to standard procedures with little or no supervision. Basic tests include serial dilution and plating of meat products for APC, coliform, generic E. coli. Perform fat and moisture determination, chemical titrations, NIR spectrophotometry
- Comply with corporate Good Laboratory Practices and HACCP requirements including laboratory environmental monitoring, daily equipment monitoring, calibrations, verifications, and aseptic technique
- Ensure that accurate SOPs and forms are in place and assist with review and updates, following controlled document management practices
- Communicates laboratory results to the proper reporting channels and persons as per company guidelines, including entry and maintenance across multiple databases
- Review analytical reports for accuracy of results; maintain records that indicate reporting discrepancies and initiate corrective actions to prevent reoccurrence
- Maintain safe practices and procedures in the lab and with lab personnel. Maintain proper job procedures, hazardous waste disposal procedures, use of lab, and Personal Protective Equipment
- Maintain the laboratory environment and supplies including inventory of reagents, monitoring, cleaning and maintenance of laboratory environment and equipment by completing calibration checks, preventive maintenance tasks, and simpler repairs, rotation of media stocks and disposal of retain samples, coordinate external calibrations and maintenance as needed
- Conduct direct observations, and sampling verifications in the plant
- Other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
- Must be eligible to work in the United States without visa sponsorship
- Must be 18 years or older
- High school diploma, secondary education level or equivalent
- Minimum 1-3 years’ experience in laboratory or related QC work experience in a food production /manufacturing environment in lieu of education
- Must be able to speak and write in English, Spanish speaking ability helpful
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proficient computer skills and ability to pick up new programs quickly (Microsoft Office Suite, LIMS, other database programs)
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Microbiology, Food Science, or closely related field preferred.
- Demonstrate basic understanding of microbiology and chemistry, working knowledge of laboratory equipment and laboratory techniques.
- Experience with laboratory information management systems and software (examples: LIMS,SAP)
- Strong level of competence with Microsoft Office Suite
