Job Purpose and Impact
The Weather Analyst will contribute to strategic weather-related trading solutions and will provide tactical weather-related trading solutions to the broader analysis and trading teams using cutting edge technology. In this role, you will work closely with internal teams to identity, prioritize and develop forecast and data solutions that can bring the most value to trading operations.
Key Accountabilities
- Execute best in class weather analytics efforts and ensure that messaging is communicated and understood globally.
- Equally contribute to both the weather team’s operational forecasting cadence and weather data operations
- Align regional weather forecasting efforts with global objectives and escalate any inconsistencies where appropriate
- Collaborate and support other analysts and team members to deliver analysis that maximizes business competitive advantage.
- Frequently collaborate with and provide support for Cargill’s internal data team and stakeholders
- Implement continuous improvement initiatives related to weather.
- Drive towards speed, accuracy, and communication of confidence intervals for weather forecasts.
- Apply general knowledge to influence thought leadership on new data, technology, tools, and innovation and establish processes to efficiently capture potential weather signal generating data.
- Independently solve moderately complex issues with minimal supervision, while escalating more complex issues to appropriate staff.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience
- Advanced knowledge of a relevant scripting language, visualization, and analysis software to build applications and chart pathways to break down weather data into usable forms
- Proficient in working with, manipulating, and leveraging large data sets
- Minimum two years of weather analytics experience.
- Minimum of two years of related work experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Exposure to the intricacies of weather applied to agriculture and commodity markets.
- Advanced knowledge of Python scripting language and extensive experience with packages such as Xarray, Cartopy, Scipy, Keras.
- Working knowledge of Git, cloud computing, and Linux operating system.
- Experience in the prediction and research of weather on seasonal to subseasonal (S2S) timescales.
