Role Summary:


The Software Developer Jr is responsible for researching, designing, implementing and managing software programs.  The role will test and evaluate features of new programs, identify areas for modification in existing programs and subsequently develop modifications.  The position is responsible for writing and implementing efficient code.

This role will have the opportunity to create the technical design and development of cross-functional, multi-platform prototypes and POCs under the mentorship of more senior team members.

 

Role Responsibilities:


Operational Work – 90% of time 

  • Deliver functional codes based on user stories from a backlog
  • Participate in Daily Stand-Ups while working towards 2-week sprint deliveries
  • Identify, evaluate and refine leading-edge tools and methods 
  • Impacts software quality and customer experience of product features
  • Build prototypes and POCs
  • Improves testability, operational metrics and team documentation

Strategic Work – 10% of time

  • Educate and inform yourself and team members about technology opportunities
  • Continually participate in visioning exercises and help guide the innovation strategy for VW Automotive Cloud (VWAC)

 

Responsibilities will include:


  • Bring a passion to stay on top of tech trends, experiment with and learn new technologies, participate in internal & external technology communities, and mentor other members of the software community
  • Collaborate with “antidisciplinary” team mates on the VWAC team to imagine the future, participate in visioning exercises and explore new technologies that could be a powerful solution to fulfill our vision
  • Work within and across Agile teams to design, develop, test, implement, and support technical solutions across a full-stack of development tools and technologies
  • Responsible for coding, testing, implementation and documentation of solutions
  • Participate in key parts of the technology project life cycle (analysis, design and/or package review, development, testing, quality assurance,). 
  • Participate in the documentation of straightforward technology solutions. 
  • Document and/or support application deployment activities.
  • Follow VWAC standards and guidelines. 
  • Escalate anticipated risk to management promptly and properly. 
Work closely with other developers, UX designers, business and systems analysts

Required Experience:

  • 0-3 years of experience

Required Education:

  • B.S. in Computer Science (or equivalent education)

Desired Education:

  • Master's or PhD in Computer Science (or equivalent education)

Required Skills:

  • Analytical and conceptual thinking – using logic and reason, creative and strategic
  • Good problem-solving, troubleshooting and application debugging capabilities
  • Strong attention to detail
  • A passion for working with peers and customers to help resolve deep customer technical issues on Microsoft, Third Party, and Open Source technologies.
  • A drive and desire to learn and grow yourself and others through proactive knowledge sharing
  • Able to take up well defined technology project tasks
  • Strong and effective verbal/written communication and listening skills for collaboration and working with customers and peers
  • Strong organization and prioritization skills, with the capacity for driving quality impacts for customers and/or stakeholders


Required Specialized Skills:

  • Object Oriented experience in a professional capacity

  • Demonstrated knowledge of C#, C , Java, or TypeScript, as well as JavaScript, HTML, and CSS

  • Experience with one Public Cloud Technology (e.g. Amazon, Azure, Google, etc.) preferrable

  • Experience in delivering API Based Services preferrable

  • Understanding of design principles, software quality and various tests involved


Desired Skills

  • DevOps and CI/CD tool chains (i.e. Jenkins, Spinnaker, Azure developer services, GitHub)\ 
  • Container orchestration systems (i.e. Docker, Kubernetes, Cloud Foundry, Azure Kubernetes Service, GitHub).

Work Flexibility:

  • 5% business travel

Compensation and Benefits

Salary range is dependent on factors such as geographical differentials, credentials or certifications, industry-based experience, qualification and training. In the city of Redmond, Washington, the salary range for this position is $79,800-109,600.
