What are the responsibilities and job description for the Floor Technician Full-Time position at Carillon?
Under general direction from the Environmental Services Director, the Floor Tech cleans and polishes all tile floors and vacuums all carpeted floors throughout the facility as determined by daily task sheet and special assignments from the supervisor or director of the department.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Maintains floors and carpets within the Community.
- Vacuum, sweep, mop, buff, shampoo, and wax all floor surfaces in the common areas.
- Shampoo carpets and furniture in resident apartments and offices.
- Attends in-service training and education sessions, as assigned.
- Picks up and removes major trash from the Community.
- Clean and wash entrances, doors, windows, elevators, stair wells, hand rails, and walls.
- Maintains all equipment and supplies in proper condition.
- Assist in training new Floor Tech personnel.
- Attends in-service training and education sessions, as assigned.
- Performs specific work duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.
- Must have effective communication skills, both oral and written.
- Must maintain resident confidentiality at all times.
- Must have an understanding of general cleaning practices.
- Must be able to complete required duties within time allowed.
- Have the ability to understand and follow instructions in English and communicate effectively.
- Have at least a 9th grade education.
- Six months to one-year experience housekeeping and/or cleaning.
- Previous floor maintenance experience preferred but not required.
The Floor Tech will have personal contact with all levels of Carillon staff, residents, and outside agencies.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL CONDITIONS
There will be moderate to heavy physical effort 95% of the workday. Must be able to stand and walk long distances up to 8 hours per day. Must be able to stoop and work from a kneeling position, perform repetitive bending, reaching and stretching. Must be able to lift and carry up to 30 lbs. independently. Must be able to push and/or pull wheeled carts and equipment weighing up to 100 lbs. over tiled and carpeted surfaces over long distances. Must be able to operate a vacuum, work in confined spaces around furniture and breakable objects, and have constant contact with residents. May be exposed to communicable diseases including influenza, HIV, and Hepatitis. May be exposed to unpleasant odors, high heat levels, and institutional cleaning chemicals.

The Floor Tech will use the following equipment: electrical appliances, cleaning and housekeeping supplies.
OSHA TASK CATEGORY I
Tasks that involve exposure to blood, body fluids, and/or tissues.

Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA)
The Floor Tech will be responsible for abiding by all Carillon policies and procedures relating to HIPAA.
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) is required.
- Three to six months experience in housekeeping or janitorial position preferred.
