The Cytologist participates in specialized and complex technical tasks involved in the processing and screening of cytologic specimens to detect evidence of cancer or other pathological conditions, ensuring the efficient and accurate testing of patient specimens. Participate in specialized and complex technical tasks involved in screening slides of clinical specimens, both gynecologic and non-gynecologic, for evidence of cancer or other pathological conditions according to departmental terminoloy and protocols including marking abnormalities, rendering diagnoses and determining cases for quality control or subsequent review with pathologist; performs various Quality Control and Quality Assurance procedures to maintain compliance with internal and external regulations and protocols; perform rapid on-site evaluation (ROSE) using tele-pathology system in the collection, processing and immediate evaluation of Fine Needle Aspirations.
Qualifications:
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor's Degree in Cytology or Bachelor's Degree in Science and Certificate in Graduate of CAAHEP (Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs) accredited Cytotechnology program or Associate's Degree in Science. Candidates with a CT certification before 1998 are exempt from the bachelor's degree requirement.
CERTIFICATION & LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS
Cytotechnologist Certification (ASCP) Qualified as a Cytologist under CLIA 88/CAP regulations within 1 year.

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
Significant knowledge of the cytologic process of preparing and screening specimens prior to pathologic review. Strong ability to work collaboratively and effectively in a fast-paced, flexible, team-based environment. Demonstrates excellent rapport with internal and external professional contacts. Facilitates open communication, diffuses sources of conflict, demonstrates respect for others, and diplomatically negotiates solutions. Excellent written and verbal communication. Demonstrates constructive thinking by analyzing issues before acting, generating creative ideas, detecting patterns and connections, breaking down complex problems, and developing solutions.
