What are the responsibilities and job description for the Commodity Manager, Indirect Materials position at Carlex?
Reporting directly to the Director, Supply Chain Management, the Commodity Manager for Indirect Materials will have overall responsibility to support operations and engineering by negotiating and sourcing material and service suppliers for one or more manufacturing facilities. This role will be responsible for identifying cost reduction opportunities, completing savings projects, negotiating and executing contracts with all levels of suppliers to the Carlex facilities. Indirect material assignments and support may include plant and corporate services, capital equipment, MRO supplies, packaging, and/or other commodities related to Carlex glass manufacturing.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
- Research potential sources, solicit proposals, analyze data and make appropriate sourcing recommendations.
- Identify opportunities to leverage volumes on selected MRO commodities to obtain the lowest total cost of materials and services.
- Manage supplier cost improvement efforts and work with the manufacturing sites to reduce Carlex’s overall cost of doing business.
- Actively participate in local and company-wide negotiations.
- Develop and monitor supplier performance to metrics.
- Support collection and maintenance of supplier performance metrics.
- Recommend suppliers for qualification and / or disqualification based upon quality performance.
- Lead VA/VE activities for indirect suppliers at Carlex Fabrication sites as well as VA/VE’s conducted at supplier locations.
- Collect and analyze data on plant volumes and spend.
- Direct management of Crib Supervisor(s).
- Develop, lead, and track performance to KPIs for Indirect Purchasing and Crib staff.
- Interface and assist with capital and tooling acquisitions.
- Maintain compliance with purchasing policies and procedures.
- Travel to other Carlex facilities and suppliers as required.
