What are the responsibilities and job description for the Temporary Substitute Teacher position at Carlow University?

Carlow University is now accepting applications for our Temporary Substitute Teacher position. This position will be a Temporary Substitute Teacher for Social Studies/Science grades 4/5 from August 15- November 26th. Teachers are expected to know and understand the PA State Standards for Social Studies/Science related to the specific content of the grade level and create innovative and engaging lesson plans incorporating technology and hands on activities, display proactive and positive classroom management, instruct students utilizing best practices, and create a well-rounded, comprehensive instructional program, while focused on inquiry-based learning. Strong communication with parents and colleagues and the ability to work well on a team are a must. The ideal candidate would be student-centered with the ability to create and implement meaningful classroom activities. Essential Functions

  • Maintain positive and proactive communication with families.
  • Plan, prepare and facilitate engaging and research-based instructional activities and assessments.
  • Create positive educational climate for students to learn in.
  • Meet course and school-wide student performance goals.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities.
  • Maintain grade-books and student information systems.
  • Read and stay abreast of current topics in education, particularly as they pertain to technology integration and innovation.
  • Create lesson plans complete with competencies, goals, assessment, differentiation and objectives.
  • Utilize various curriculum resources that reflect the diverse educational, cultural, and linguistic backgrounds of the students served.
  • Develop positive and proactive classroom management to create a culture for learning.
  • Develop professional relationships with colleagues, other agencies and programs.
  • Work with program coordinators to ensure initiatives are being met.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all learners.
  • Prepare and distribute required reports in a timely fashion meeting required timelines.
  • Demonstrates commitment to the highest integrity and to the values complementary to the mission on The Campus Laboratory School, Carlow University, and the Sisters of Mercy.

Nonessential Functions

  • Write grant proposals to gain funding for programs and instructional activities.
  • Other duties as assigned by administration.


MINIMUM EDUCATION

  • Bachelor's Degree in Elementary with focus on Social Studies/Science
  • Applicants are preferred to hold a Master’s degree
  • PA Teaching Certification Required


Minimum Experience

  • Experience incorporating current technology into lessons on a daily basis.
  • Prior classroom teaching experience preferred.


Required Skills, Abilities And/Or Licensure

  • PA Teaching Certification Required, dependent on grade level taught.
  • All Required Clearances
