Basic Functions
Keep Carlton County buildings and grounds clean and well maintained in order to provide a clean, safe, sanitary environment for employees and the public.
Essential Functions
Cleaning and Maintenance
1. Clean and maintain all County facilities, internally and externally, including offices, workstations (excluding personal desk space and property) and all other building areas. Perform other cleaning and maintenance duties as assigned.
a. Clean, maintain, strip and wax floors.
b. Clean cubicle glass and dust all cubicle ledges.
c. Clean all carpets, walls, windows, doors, tables, chairs, kick plates, counters, stair railings, furnishings and other building fixtures by using a variety of techniques, methods, and equipment, including but not limited to: burnishers, auto scrubbers, buffers, shampooers, extractors, vacuums, etc.
2. Maintain areas in and around county buildings to include lawn care, collecting and disposing of trash, removing snow and ice from sidewalks, sweeping, emptying ashtrays, salting, etc.
3. Clean restroom facilities and drinking fountains; refill paper and soap dispensers.
4. Empty trash containers and shredders; shred documents as necessary.
5. Maintain tools, equipment and supplies used on the job.
6. Provide light maintenance and repair to county facilities, such as changing light bulbs, completing small painting jobs, repairing furniture, checking fire extinguishers and changing air filters.
Other Duties
1. Move and relocate office furniture and equipment as directed.
2. Set up conference rooms to include removing or storing tables, chairs, and other furniture, possibly several times within one shift as requested for meetings.
3. Conduct building security checks.
4. Order, receive, stock and deliver supplies.
5. Move boxes of paper and files as directed. Assist with employees’ heavy lifting requests.
6. Maintain and monitor recycling bins.
7. Provide immediate service for cleaning emergency spills and fixing anything that breaks during the scheduled shift.
8. Set up caution signs and alert the public during power outages or other emergencies.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
- High school graduation or equivalent.
- One year of college or vocational training in a related field or equivalent.
- Education and experience beyond high school to total two years.
- Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the essential functions of the job.
Certificates/Licenses Required
- State of Minnesota Special Class Boiler’s License must be obtained within six (6) months of hire date.
- Valid driver’s license.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required at Entry
1. Knowledge of janitorial procedures.
2. Ability to read, write, speak and understand English.
3. Ability to follow instructions.
4. Ability to work around the public, employees and all meetings (during and after hours) as needed on a scheduled basis.
5. Ability to regularly lift and carry objects up to 50 pounds, and occasionally move objects or equipment in excess of 50 pounds
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $22.02 - $26.23 per hour
Expected hours: 37.50 per week
