What are the responsibilities and job description for the Temp Orchestra Librarian, NYO2 position at Carnegie Hall?
Carnegie Hall seeks a seasonal Orchestra Librarian for NYO2 for summer 2024 rehearsal, tour, and performance activities. NYO2 is a tuition-free instrumental training program for high school aged musicians, chosen via a highly selective audition process. The orchestra rehearses initially at Purchase College, SUNY, with a faculty of top professional players, before traveling in North America for concert activities, including a performance at Carnegie Hall.
Tasks & Responsibilities:
Prepare music, based on coordination with Carnegie Hall and NYO-USA/NYO2 artistic staff (contracted separately) regarding bowings or other special instructions, to a high professional standard and in a timely fashion.
Scan all parts and scores for back-up and distribution to participants. Carnegie Hall staff will disseminate parts electronically to participating musicians by May 15.
Prepare part books and maintain an inventory of study scores for program faculty during rehearsals and coaching sessions.
Oversee music library operations for NYO2 rehearsals and concerts during the Engagement, including assembling and managing folders, facilitating stage changes, and attending to music needs as necessary.
Collect rental materials and return to publishers in good order at the conclusion of the NYO2 tour.
Skills & Qualifications:
Prior orchestral/large ensemble librarian experience is required
Outstanding communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills, with a demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and to work collaboratively with a broad range of stakeholders, including major conductors and soloists.
A strong commitment to creating a positive educational environment, to expanding opportunities for young musicians from underrepresented communities, and to the values of diversity, equity, and inclusion
The ability to work evenings and weekends during the program period and to travel with the orchestra as needed. (Eligibility to travel and work in the US is required.)
Competitive weekly stipend ($1,200/week), plus room and board, including all travel expenses.
