Instructional Designer, Math K-5

Carnegie Learning currently provides middle and high school mathematics solutions to develop students' mathematical knowledge through a combination of classroom activities, adaptive software, and teacher professional development. We are expanding our core math offerings to include Kindergarten through Grade 5.

Carnegie Learning is seeking a qualified individual to help build our print and digital mathematics suite using best practices in instructional design and innovation that support student achievement and instructor implementation. The Instructional Designer, Math (K-5) reports to the Director of Instructional Design, Math (K-5).

WHAT YOUR DAY WILL LOOK LIKE

  • Serve as a pedagogical and content expert for elementary mathematics, with a particular focus on an assigned grade band: K-1, 2-3, or 4-5
  • Support instructional design and content strategy of engaging print and digital instructional resources for your assigned grade band while supporting the development of the entire K-5 product
  • Design student learning experiences and teacher supports for elementary math students using creative solutions to meet content needs
  • Identify opportunities and evidence-based best practices for supporting struggling learners and English language learners
  • Collaborate with cognitive scientists, UX/UI designers, and engineers in the development of learning activities using a variety of technology tools
  • Collaborate with the research team to ensure efficacy and to foster an accurate, relevant body of knowledge on the science of learning
  • Support cross-functional leadership with regard to operational and delivery best practices
  • Cultivate and maintain deep knowledge of the K-12 math market and customer values and needs

WHAT SHOULD BE IN YOUR BACKPACK

  • 5 years of K-5 classroom experience
  • BA in Education, Mathematics, or Elementary Education
  • MA in Curriculum or another education-related field and/or a specialist credential preferred
  • In-depth knowledge of the Common Core State Standards for mathematics
  • Strong foundational knowledge in evidence-based math instruction for elementary students, diverse learners, and non-native English speakers
  • Demonstrates a high level of conceptual and strategic thinking and attention to detail to develop content and meet deadlines
  • A history of educational work centered on equitable outcomes for students most underserved by our educational system
  • An understanding of the concepts and impact of institutional and structural racism and bias and their impact on underserved and underrepresented communities
  • Disposition to relentlessly solve problems rather than be stopped by them
  • Expert communicator with exceptional writing and editorial skills
  • Desire and ability to foster a culture of innovation, teamwork, collaboration, flexibility
  • Proficiency with computers and programs, including, but not limited to, Microsoft Office Suite, Google Content platforms (including Drive, Docs, and Sheets), and Adobe Acrobat
