Job Summary: The Library Services Supervisor – School Partnerships is an innovative professional who continues the Library's reputation as a leader in literacy and learning services. Building on our history of service to Pittsburgh Public Schools (PPS) and other area K-12 schools, the Library Services Supervisor – School Partnerships works with staff from across the Library to leverage partnerships and connect students, their families, and educators with library resources. They actively participate as a member of peer and leadership groups to effect change, implement strategies and contribute to the long- and short-range direction of the Library.
Under the direction of the Coordinator of Children’s Services and Family Engagement, the Library Services Supervisor – School Partnerships will act as project manager of initiatives related to formal K-12 education and education support, including CardFest, a Leaders Library Card Challenge. Through the PPS and CLP CardFest partnership, every student at Pittsburgh Public Schools will receive an active library card in the 2024-2025 school year and beyond and understand how to use it.
To accomplish these and other Library goals, the Library Services Supervisor – School Partnerships will collaborate with K-12 students, families and our educational partners including school district administrators, principals, school librarians, teachers, Out of School Time professionals and the Mayor’s Office.

Work Hours: 37.5 hours per week, Monday through Friday
Compensation: $50,000-55,000 annualized rate

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Providing expertise on the formal education landscape in Pittsburgh Public Schools and other area K-12 schools: their current educational practices—especially those related to literacy, programs, and policies;
  • Project managing and evaluating CLP’s school-based initiatives, including CardFest, which is now in its second pilot year;
  • Leading the design of school-based programs and services, including in-reach and outreach, for K-12 students and their parents/caregivers and educators, with a special focus on supporting learners at Pittsburgh Public Schools;
  • Representing the Library in the community, especially within the K-12 formal learning landscape, by building relationships and creating partnerships to ensure the Library reaches customers who might be most affected by Pittsburgh’s learning inequities and lack of access to literacy and learning supports and services;
  • Leading and developing the work of staff designing and providing these programs and services;
  • Developing the skills and abilities of less experienced staff through coaching, learning opportunities, direct and indirect work assignments, building and extending trust, and empowering staff to work to the top of their classifications to achieve the Library’s goals;
  • Supervising select staff in the Office of Programmatic Services;
  • Understanding and modeling Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh’s brand and mission every day;
  • Evaluating the success of these efforts and continuously improving public services and staff proficiency to respond to changing needs through data collection and analysis; and generating and sharing the vision of a future-focused library;
  • Overseeing and managing grants and special funds targeted to these efforts;
  • Performing other duties as assigned.
Education & Experience:
  • Three years of related experience and increasing responsibility in a public library or educational setting, including demonstrated leadership and project management;
  • Master’s degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited university; or Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Education or related field;
  • Knowledge of the Pittsburgh Public School District, including structure and staffing, educational goals and practices and more;
  • Relevant experience in forging and maintaining partnerships between organizations, institutions or other groups to further education, literacy or learning;
  • Relevant experience in service design, coordination and evaluation/measurement of services supporting public library or K-12 educational initiatives;
  • Significant experience working directly with a diverse public, especially children and teens;
  • Knowledge of and commitment to best practices in equity, diversity and inclusion;
  • Previous experience supporting and coaching staff;
  • The ability to communicate effectively in professional verbal and written communication channels and craft messaging for large audiences including internal and external stakeholder groups;
  • Ability to independently travel locally, regionally and nationally as required;
  • The ability to sit or stand at a desk and use a computer screen for long periods of time, at times for a full workday, in an open office setting;

  • Ability to independently travel locally, regionally and nationally as required;
Clearance Requirements:
  • PA State Criminal Background Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance, FBI Fingerprint Criminal Records Check and Mandated Reporter Training upon offer of employment.
