Job Description
The primary duties are to perform responsible, professional and technical work in processing, assessing and auditing of business personal personal property BPOL applications/renewals. Enforces state and local government policies and procedures to ensure County and state events are in compliance.
Job Responsibilities
Interact with the public as well as answering taxpayer's calls
Performs administrative duties and technical work to maintain compliance with county ordinances and state law regarding the assessment of the business gross receipts
Investigate and audit business establishments conducting business in Caroline County
Oversee compliance with license requirements as well as county and state laws
Assist citizens with information and interpretation of tax regulations and laws
Process business applications and renewal forms
Maintain master computer files
Conducts field investigations to determine whether a business is compliant with tax laws and regulations
Issue summons and criminal complaints
Prepares and maintains multiple spreadsheets and database information in order to track and keep record of personal information and tax records
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
High School Diploma or a combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities is mandatory.
Must be able to perform duties under limited supervision
Must have strong knowledge in operating various software and applications used in manipulating, analyzing and maintaining confidential records
Must have the ability to interpret and apply codes and procedures to non-routine questions and problems
A strong professionalism in all levels of communication is mandatory
Effective written and verbal communication skills required
Ability to manage various degrees of responsibilities within the office and work under pressure during peak workload periods
Must be able to create and maintain an effective working relationship with other county departments while maintaining good judgement and courtesy to the general public
Physical Requirements
Must be able to change between sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, reaching, grasping, pulling and pushing through out work day.
Must be able to listen and speak to citizens, vendors and co-workers
Must be able to occasionally lift up to 30 pounds
Will be required to walk large parcels of land
Must be able to work outdoors in any type of weather when required to register businesses for special outdoor events
Additional Information
This position requires continuing education for knowledge of new laws and procedures passed by the County, the Board of Supervisors and the General Assembly of Virginia.
