Summary of Role/Position
The Director of safety is responsible for ensuring the safety of multiple distribution centers. In this role, you will develop and refine safety policies and procedures. Coordinate, administer, and implement comprehensive training programs and record keeping. Respond to reported accidents to evaluate current best practices and recommend changes where necessary. Perform analysis and report on performance and trends.
YOU WILL:
- Visit distribution centers to conduct safety audits on operational compliance to safety policies and procedures
- Utilizing a team of Safety leads to creating a culture of safety.
- Evaluate, assess, and alter safety procedures and policies for the benefit of team members and contractors
- Analyze accident reports and evaluate injury case studies based on available facts to determine root cause and recommended correction
- Prepare and conduct safety training sessions for team members and contractors
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory bodies and standards (including OSHA, EPA, etc.)
- Research governing regulations and policies and institute changes to ensure compliance
- Track and analyze safety metrics and report findings
- Lead injury and incident investigations and evaluation
- Train distribution center leadership on best safety practices, procedures, and accident investigation process
- Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, maintaining personal networks, participating in professional organizations
- Perform other duties as required
YOU MUST HAVE:
- A minimum of 8 years of experience in warehouse safety or a similar industrial environment
- Expert knowledge of OSHA standards
- Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety preferred
- Certification in Occupational Safety preferred
- Strong communication skills both written and verbal
- Ability to train, influence, and motivate leaders and team members
- Travel required (30 to 50 percent)
