Job Overview:
The Director of Operations will play a pivotal role in overseeing all operational aspects of the flight school. This individual will be responsible for ensuring the seamless execution of flight-training programs, maintaining compliance with regulatory standards, and optimizing operational efficiency to support the growth and success of the organization. Key Responsibilities:
Operational Oversight: Manage day-to-day operations of the academy, including scheduling of flights, aircraft maintenance, administration, and facility management.
Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with all applicable aviation regulations, including but not limited to FARs Part 61, Part 91, and Part 43.
Flight Training Programs: Collaborate with instructional staff to develop and enhance flight training programs, ensuring alignment with industry best practices and educational standards.
Safety Management: Implement and enforce safety procedures and protocols to maintain a safe operating environment for students, instructors, and staff. This including the development of a SMS.
Fleet Management: Oversee the maintenance and servicing of the aircraft fleet, coordinating with maintenance personnel and external vendors (as needed). Resource Allocation & Fleet Utilization: Optimize resource allocation, including aircraft utilization, instructor assignments, and facility usage, to maximize operational efficiency and profitability.
Budget Management: Develop and manage the operational budget, tracking expenses and identifying opportunities for cost savings and revenue generation.
Staff Development: Provide leadership and guidance to operational staff, fostering a culture of professionalism, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
Customer and Student Experience: Ensure a positive and seamless experience for students and customers, from enrollment and training to graduation and beyond.
Continuous Improvement: Identify areas for operational improvement and coordinate with the Executive Director and Deputy Director to implement strategies to enhance efficiency, quality, and customer satisfaction. Assist as required in the execution of strategic events as requested.
Qualifications
FAA CFI and CFII required. Gold Seal CFI is preferred.
Second Class Medical Certificate is required.
Bachelor's in Aviation Management, Aviation Business Administration, or related preferred.
Experience in aviation operations management, preferably in a flight training environment.
Previous Chief Pilot or Assistant Chief Pilot or Flight Instructor experience is preferred.
Strong understanding of FAA regulations, Safety Management Systems (SMS), safety protocols. Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams. Proven track record of managing operational budgets and resources. Ability to prioritize and multitask in a fast-paced environment. Commitment to safety, quality, and delivering excellent customer service.
