Description: Lead, supervise, administer, and manage Carroll High School so as to promote the educational development of each student as well as the professional development of each staff member.
Job Summary:
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Develop and be accountable for an effective learning environment in the school.
2. Exercises leadership in establishing and clarifying short and long range educational goals.
3. Promotes positive action toward the realization of school objectives through efficient procedures, curriculum, extra-curricular programs, and the establishment of staff, student, and community committees.
4. Fosters positive interpersonal relations among students, teachers, and administrators.
5. Designs and implements a building-level communication system which effectively meets the needs of the staff and students.
6. Develops a program of public relations in order to further the community's understanding and support of the educational program.
7. Develops and implements a staff-improvement program for teachers in the building in coordination with the superintendent.
8. Assumes major responsibility in the recruiting, screening, hiring, training, assigning, and evaluating of all certificated personnel assigned to the school.
9. Assists in the recruiting, screening, hiring, training, assigning, and evaluating of all non-certificated personnel assigned to the school.
10. Assumes responsibility for the scheduling of all classes in the high school and for ensuring that all students are scheduled for classes in accordance with the Board Policy.
11. Assumes responsibility for the safety of all personnel and exercises decisive leadership in crisis situations.
12. Coordinates the master calendar for all athletic, co-curricular and academic activities.
13. Is responsible for development of and distribution of the monthly school activities calendar. Receives and coordinates the Flip Side information.
14. Plans and supervises fire drills and emergency preparedness program.
15. Establishes and maintains high standards of student conduct and enforces discipline as necessary, according to due process to the rights of students, with the assistance of the assistant-to-the principal.
16. Prepares and submits the school’s budgetary requests and monitors the expenditures of the General and Activity funds.
17. Assumes the responsibility for the observance and implementation of Board policies and administrative regulations.
18. Enforces district attendance policies.
19. Coordinates scheduling of school/community activities with the superintendent’s offices.
20. Coordinates rental and building use with the superintendent’s office.
21. Prepares or supervises the preparation of reports, records, lists and all other paper work required by local policy and state law.
22. Directs the coordination and maintenance of the school’s pupil services including guidance and counseling, health, library and student records.
23. Defines and delegates appropriate supervisory responsibility for all school activities. Plans for the proper conduct of participants and spectators at all public events.
24. Supervises extra-curricular and co-curricular events with the assistant principal and the athletic director.
25. Delegates authority to personnel to assume responsibility for the school in the absence of the administrators.
26. Administers the Alternative High School program.
28. Keeps abreast of trends, promising ideas, and research in the profession by attending professional meetings, reading professional literature, pursuing appropriate formal education, and discussing problems of mutual interest with others in the field.
29. Manages and is accountable for the effectiveness of the student services and activities programs, including development and proper implementation of guidelines for activity sponsors.
30. Supervises and administers the Fine Arts programs at Carroll High School.
31. Assists in the organization, planning and implementation of summer school programs.
31. Assists in the development and implementation of accommodations to Section 504, ADA, and IDEA for the building
32. Performs such other duties as the superintendent may assign.
Qualifications:
Licensed in Iowa as a high school principal
