JOB TITLE: ACTIVITY DIRECTOR
ACCOUNTABLE TO: ADMINISTRATOR
DEPARTMENT: ACTIVITY DEPARTMENT
PURPOSE OF YOUR JOB POSITION:
The primary purpose of your job position is to plan, develop, organize, implement, evaluate, and direct activity programs in accordance with current existing federal and state regulations, as well as our established policies and procedures. The ACTIVITY DIRECTOR will assure through these programs that the spiritual development, emotional, recreational, and social needs of the residents are met and maintained on an individual basis.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Listed below is an outline of the duties and responsibilities that you will be required to perform. As ACTIVITY DIRECTOR, you are delegated the responsibility and accountability to carry out your assigned duties.
Even though your job description is broad, every effort has been made to make this outline as complete as possible. HOWEVER, we must emphasize that you MAY be required to perform other related duties and activities.
l) Plan and coordinate a program ofactivities that will fulfill social, physical, creative, intellectual, recreational, and spiritual needs of residents based upon individualized assessment
2) Visit residents and carry out individualized activity plans
3) Maintain records relating to the Activity Department, including resident assessments, progress notes, and activity participation records
4) Serve on Interdisciplinary Resident Care Plan Team and other committees as designated by the Administrator
5) Provide a reality-based activity program
6) Assist residents in securing items necessary for individual activity programs
7) Plan and direct selected group and individual activities
8) Help transport residents to and from activities 9) Assist in the management and supervision of activity room/space
10) Provide seasonal decorations in the building 11) Coordinate and supervise activity volunteers 12) Work varied hours as indicated by evening and weekend activities and/or as requested by the Administrator
13) Schedule, plan, and post a monthly activity calendar visible to residents, staff, and families
14) Receive, sort, and deliver resident mail in a timely manner and ensure resident receives assistance with opening and/or reading mail per consent as given by resident/resident's representative
15) Daily morning reality orientation/informational announcement
16) Offer "reminder announcements" 30 minutes prior to activity programs
17) Develop and maintain a working rapport with other departments within the facility and appropriate contacts outside the facility to assure that activity programs can be properly maintained to meet the needs of the residents
18) Keep a record of and monitor department expenditures and budget
19) Assist in the development of and participation in regularly scheduled inservice training programs as requested and/or delegated by Administrator
20) Involve residents in planning activities as appropriate
21) Meet with Activity Department personnel on a regular basis to identify and improve areas of concern, and/or improvement of activity services
22) Maintain confidentiality of resident care information to assure resident rights are protected 23) Coordinate activities with other departments as necessary
24) Work with the facility's consultants and implement recommended revisions as required
25) Assist with Resident Council Activity Fund and monitor expenditures
26) Assist with the monthly Resident Choice Meal as indicated
27) Other duties as assigned by the Administrator
WORKING CONDITIONS:
1) Works in well-lighted, ventilated areas
2) Sitting, standing, bending, lifting, and moving intermittently during working hours
3) Subject to frequent interruptions
4) Involved with residents, families, personnel, visitors, etc. under all conditions/circumstances
5) Subject to hostile and emotionally upset residents, family members, etc.
6) Communicates with nursing personnel and other department supervisors as necessary
7) Willingness to work beyond normal working hours and in other positions temporarily, when necessary
8) Attend and participate in continuing educational programs as directed
9) Subject to falls, burns from equipment, infectious diseases, substances, odors, etc. throughout the work day
10) Be economical and careful with supplies, equipment, etc.

OUALIFICATIONS:
The Activity Program must be directed by a qualified professional who:
l) Is a qualified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist who is:
a) Licensed or registered, if applicable, by the state in which practicing; and
b) Eligible for certification as a Therapeutic Recreation Specialist by a recognized accrediting body by August 1, 1989; or
c) Eligible for certification through the National Certification Council of Activity Professionals (NCCAP); or
2) Has 2 years experience in a social or recreational program within the last five (5) years, one of which was full-time in a resident activity program in a health care setting; or 3) Is a qualified Occupational Therapist or Occupational Therapy Assistant; or
