ABOUT THIS ROLE:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Vice President of Tax who will be responsible for leading and managing all aspects of the company's tax strategy, reporting and compliance (including compliance with ASC 740), foreign/domestic tax planning and research and compliance with foreign/domestic tax laws and regulations (including U.S. tax consequences related to foreign operations).
The Vice President, Tax will work closely with our business units, corporate planning and business development, including tax planning around potential mergers and acquisitions. This individual will be required to develop an intimate knowledge of the operations of the company and serve as a team player. Our ideal candidate will bring a wealth of experience to navigate the complexities of tax regulations and ensure the company's financial success.
- Own and manage the quarterly US GAAP provision and reporting process by ensuring compliance with ASC 740, including support for internal and external audits related to tax matters
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state and international (today limited to Canada) tax laws and regulations
- Coordinate and optimize tax compliance work (including audits) with our internal team and external partners, including but not limited to: income, sales, Canadian GST/HST/PST/QST, property and escheatment
- Continuously assess and improve tax related processes, implementing changes to optimize work and ensure best practices
- Build and maintain relationships and partnerships with internal teams, in particular the Finance team, through effective communication and collaboration throughout the organization to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting of tax-related matters
- Build and maintain effective relationships with external tax advisors, regulatory authorities and other relevant stakeholders
- Provide leadership and guidance in tax planning initiatives
- Manage the evaluation of tax implications and structuring of M&A transactions
- Conduct in-depth research and analysis on tax issues and potential tax exposures
- Foster a collaborative and high performance culture within the tax department
- Manage, direct and review work of internal and external tax resources.
ABOUT YOU:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting; Masters in Taxation a plus
- 12 years of industry and/or public tax experience
- CPA, CA designation or equivalent
- Basic understanding of US GAAP
- Advanced knowledge with ASC 740
- Strong technical skills in compliance and tax planning
- Experience with cross-border tax planning and accounting between the U.S. and Canada
- Excellent analytical skills with the ability to apply tax accounting literature and guidance to complex accounting transactions
- Proven ability to identify and manage tax-related risks, ensuring compliance and optimizing financial outcomes
- Excellent written and oral communication skills to effectively convey tax concepts to various stakeholders including executive leaders and board members
- Self-starter with a strong sense of ownership and ability to prioritize work within a complex, fast-paced environment
- Ability to work cross-functionally and align teams to work towards common goals.
