What are the responsibilities and job description for the Accounting Intern position at Carter Bank and Trust?
POSITION TITLE: Accounting Intern
FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt
SUMMARY:
The Accounting intern will gain hands-on experience, learning various aspects of the accounting function and office operations by being assigned various tasks and projects while using their accounting knowledge and skills in a professional setting. The intern will collaborate with the accounting team to compile and analyze data, track information, and provide administrative support to the Accounting team.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
* Filing and scanning of accounting documentation and other related clerical functions
* Assist in month end closing
* Streamline the general ledger system by reviewing and eliminating unused or unneeded numbers while learning the Prologue Accounting software; Verifying the modification register will aid in the learning of the software
* Set up an inventory system between the Fixed Asset system and branch management to be used going forward to verify assets in the branches; this includes working with branch managers and developing a procedure and various spreadsheets and forms while also determining controls needed to have in the system
* Offer support to the Accounts Payable department as needed to assist in scanning invoices, mailing checks, reviewing reports
* Aid in proofreading financial and regulatory documents
* Develop a system and procedures to maintain the Form 4 Beneficial Ownership filings electronically along with any related documents; this would require organization of electronic files and development of forms and/or spreadsheets to be used going forward to eliminate the use of manual documents
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
* Must be currently enrolled in a bachelor's or master's degree program with a GPA of at least 3.0 and pursuing a degree in Accounting, Business, Economics, Finance, or related field

* Must be able to sit at a desk for long periods of time and use a computer
* Must be able to occasionally move or lift up to 10 pounds
* Limited travel occasionally required during and after business hours
