POWER SYSTEMS DIVISION (PSD) SYSTEMS ENGINEER

Carter Machinery Company, the authorized Caterpillar dealer serving Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, Delaware and Washington D.C. is hiring a Systems Engineer in Richmond, Virginia.  The Systems Engineer position is responsible for selling products and services for complex power generation systems.  The Systems Engineer will provide pre-sales engineering and support, including preparing and reviewing detailed specifications during the design/build phase of projects.  Will gather and provide financial, technical and commercial information from outside vendors, internal departments, and other industry sources.  The Systems Engineer will provide an overall review of proposal to ensure that it is complete and accurate. Seeking candidates with minimum three years of industrial/electrical power generation systems equipment experience; other similar industries will be considered. College degree preferred.  

Requirements for the Systems Engineer position include:

• Self-starter able to work with limited supervision. 
• Strong mechanical, technical, and electrical aptitude required.
• Must have ability to multi-task while maintaining organized and detailed documentation of all conversations.
• Must be able to prioritize work with competing demands.
• A strong sense of urgency and a desire to exceed customer expectations.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with ability to interact professionally with all levels of personnel within the organization and customers.
• Strong leadership skills and a commitment to teamwork.
• Clean driving record and a valid driver's license required. 

• Frequent travel is required – overnight or out town via car or airplane.

• Must be able to handle large volumes of work in a fast-paced environment.

Physical requirements must be met for the Systems Engineer job, including the ability sit or stand for prolonged periods of time.  Able to lift, carry and maneuver items up to 20 pounds in weight. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and ability to adjust focus. This position may require reaching, standing, stooping, kneeling, bending and climbing beside, onto and under a variety of heavy equipment. This job description is not intended to be all-inclusive.  Additional duties may be assigned.
