About the team and position
The Workers' Compensation Coordinator is responsible for the intake and review of Carvana's employees' work-related injury reports and ensuring work related injuries are reported timely to the company's third party claim administrator ("TPA"), as well as other general administrative and operational support items related to the operations of Carvana's Workers' Compensation program. This position will act as the single point of contact for Human Resources, Workers' Compensation Claims Adjusters, injured employees and their managers. The Workers' Compensation Coordinator is also responsible for coordinating return-to-work accommodations prescribed with light duty restrictions and with full duty release. The Workers' Compensation Coordinator will monitor and regularly review active claims to stay apprised of developments and document reviews and tasks within the company's Risk Management Information System ("RMIS"). The Workers' Compensation Coordinator reports directly to the Corporate Insurance Team Lead within the Corporate Insurance Department.
What you'll be doing
- Evaluate work-related injury reports and ensure timely reporting of Workers' Compensation claims to Carvana's TPA.
- Work closely with TPA adjusters to support the claim handling process by providing important details relevant to the Workers Comp incident.
- Play an important role as an advocate to injured employees and help to provide clarity and support through the claim handling process.
- Coordinate with appropriate business units to identify possible work accommodations for employees released to work with physical restrictions.
- Partner with the HR Department to appropriately status employees on leave due to work-related injuries.
- Work closely with TPA adjusters to support efficiencies in claim adjusting and timely claim closure.
- Provide guidance and acts as a resource to injured employees' managers when work-related injuries occur.
- Other duties as assigned.
What you should know/have
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
- Experience with Workers' Compensation claims or safety incidents in a corporate, carrier or TPA setting is preferred.
- Effective dispute resolution skills; can navigate through difficult and escalated conversations. while maintaining composure, showing empathy and finding a positive resolution.
- Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
- Ability to communicate well with all personality types, as well as external vendors, and internal peers in a professional and collaborative manner.
- Solid investigative and problem-solving skills.
- Exceptional organizational skills - able to effectively track status of a variety of claims and utilize systematic organization tools to meet deadlines and manage workload.
- Proven ability to multitask while maintaining attention to detail.
- Ability to exercise prudent discretion regarding confidential and sensitive personnel information.
