Career Area: Engineering Job Description: JOB DESCRIPTION: This position is intended as an entry-level designer position for candidates with a college degree of BS in Engineering. Primary role is to execute the assigned tasks driven to fulfill the design needs for prefabricated modular products for oil & gas facilities engineering in the support of sales and execution for Solar Turbines products. Associate Designer will be responsible initially for the tasks outlined in the DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES section of this document for balance of plant design of oil & gas projects utilizing gas turbine compressor sets & generators. Typical projects include gas compressor stations, power generation and co-generation facilities, offshore Single Lift Modules for both compression and power generation, and Modular Building Solutions. “Modular Building Solutions” refers to Solar’s Configurable Modular Prefabricated Building (CMPB). The CMPB is a structural block-based building that houses Solar Turbomachinery and utility systems. Position requires flexibility with personal schedule to meet deadlines and support occasional business travel. Work with all disciplines (mechanical, piping, structural, instrumentation, and electrical) to develop efficient designs QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge of standard drafting practices and/or exposure to machinery drawings. Working knowledge of Computer Aided Drafting (CAD). Able to create Solar scope applicable design layouts, drawings, sketches and 3D models using AutoCad software. Manual creation is sometimes requested and needed. Able to interpret marks on drawings, follow the marks conventions and deliver revised drawings. Understanding of engineering principles, design, manufacturing processes, and shop capabilities Good communication skills, both written and verbal, in the English language. Sense of urgency and good organizational skills are required to work with multiple projects and competing priorities. Basic knowledge of facilities equipment (turbines, compressors, generators, etc.) is a plus Bachelor of Science College Degree Entry level or early career (3 years max.) experience in project design teams KEY KNOWLEDGE: Able to create diagrams, sketches and drawings using standard drafting practices and computerized design software. PROBLEM COMPLEXITY: Drafting of drawings and details using Computer Design Software. Requires an understanding of Oil and Gas facilities related work. WORK DIRECTION AND LATITUDE: With input from senior designer, Design Coordinator and discipline engineer, completes assigned diagrams, sketches and drawings. Understands importance of maintaining schedules and keeps designers in his team appraised of possible schedule impacts. RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES: Assist on Setup of the project design folders in the Design group directory and Design Services Project Interface Microsoft Teams folders Collaborate on the Preparation of the project design deliverables schedules Create 3D models of projects of low to mid complexity such as process skids and modules and produce complex design arrangement plans, layouts, sections, details and specific orientation drawings (deliverables). Keep track of the need dates assigned to the modeling and drawings creation tasks Support lead and senior designers on the miscellaneous design and administrative tasks such as drawings transmittals, drawings creation, incorporation of drawings, 2D design and drafting. Support the review of models and drawings created by Design Services companies. Support the field during fabrication, installation, commissioning, and start-up of designed systems. Fabrication is normally at Solar’s fabrication facility (TurboFab) in Channelview, TX. Recommend design changes affecting areas of direct responsibility LIAISON: Frequent contact with senior designer, design engineers and project engineers on assigned projects.
