Join us. ********************************************************************************************************************************************************************* Description This Engineering Specialist position is in the Materials Engineering section of the Advanced Materials Technology (AMT) Team located on Caterpillar’s Technical Center campus in Chillicothe, IL. The role provides technical leadership in the coordination of mechanical and thermo-physical testing for ferrous, non-ferrous, and high-temperature alloys utilized in engine and machine components. Responsibilities include providing clear direction for metallographic lab analysis, interpreting fatigue testing results, and correlating material performance to manufacturing processes. Job Duties Project leadership and execution including establishing project success criteria with internal clients, managing project plans and budgets, communicating to stakeholders and suppliers, and meeting committed project deliverables Engineering technical support and problem-solving related to materials, supplier capability, and specification development Directing work and establishing collaboration with external labs/industrial partners/universities Coordinate/plan/execute mechanical and thermo-physical testing on primarily ferrous alloys, but sometimes non-ferrous and high-temperature alloys Ability and willingness to mentor less experienced personnel Communication and prioritization with internal clients Basic Qualifications B.S. in Metallurgical Engineering/Ceramics Engineering/Materials Science & Engineering 5 years of pertinent professional experience Excellent written and verbal communication skills Understanding of metallic fatigue (testing, modeling, interpretation, test planning) Ability to provide clear direction for metallographic lab analysis Ability to convey complex metallurgical concepts to non-experts Intermediate understanding of mechanical testing of materials (static, fatigue, bending, high and low temp mechanical testing) Top Candidates will also have Advanced engineering degree Experience working within an industrial R&D organization Mechanical testing of materials experience Prior experience in automotive or heavy equipment component manufacturing Heat treatment and foundry processing knowledge Statistical background for planning and test parameter selection Prior experience with testing labs/universities Advanced understanding of metallic fatigue (testing, modeling, interpretation, test planning) Data analysis and ability to draw conclusions from complex data sets Intermediate to advanced spreadsheet skills Additional Information The location for this position is Chillicothe, IL.
