The Product Support and Logistics Division (PSLD) is one of the most innovative divisions within Caterpillar. The Undercarriage validation team within PSLD is currently seeking an Engineering Team Leader to work on field test activities related to components used on Caterpillar machines. The candidate will be a member of the team responsible for Caterpillar world-wide validation of undercarriage components and systems. Undercarriage components and assemblies are both internally produced and purchased finished. Through it all, we are one team – creating and delivering world-class components and solutions superior to the competition. Learn more about the Caterpillar Experience As an Undercarriage Engineering Team Leader: The team leader role accounts for up to 50% of this assignment the remainder of the time, the incumbent acts as an individual contributor, bringing technical expertise to the project as well. Team leaders must manage their own development, continuously learning through experience, new business knowledge, and skill. Program/project management and strong organizational skills are critical. Significant challenges of this position are working with people; enhancing the team’s creativity; facilitating the team’s cooperation; clearly communicating the requirements and tasks, while gaining input from the team on refinement of same; translating both verbal and non-verbal information from the customer, management, and team members. Team leader acts as spokesperson for the team in meetings with management and with the customer. Team leader must develop good networks to enable them to obtain resources and cooperation needed, and remove roadblocks so that they can ensure the success of their team. Team leaders must have strong communication skills and interpersonal skills; as well as, ever increasing skills in the role-based competencies of Managing Vision & Purpose, Decision Quality, and Negotiating. Job Duties/Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to: Pull together a team of individuals who may or may not have worked together before, to develop and execute a validation plan meeting the goals of the design team. Provide a supportive work environment for the team; mentor, coach, and develop others. Coordinate and assign resources for the validation of undercarriage components that support New Product Improvement (NPI) and Continuous Product Improvement (CPI) projects. Collaborate with CAT Sales & Technical Reps, dealers, and customers. Manage internal/external validation test requests and support quality/material/design improvement projects. Perform and/or apply root cause analysis on field returns and end of life test components (5 Whys, Fishbone, Pareto, FMEA) Coordinate track shop schedule to manage builds and disassembly. Perform component inspections and root cause analysis. Provide technical advice to individuals at various levels in the organization. Work with another unit or team. Create and deliver technical reports.
