Job Purpose: Caterpillar’s Resources Industries Lead Solutions and Data Architect role will apply business expertise and technology expertise for data, application and technology projects interfacing with departments, service centers, and/or business unit customer bases worldwide. This role is focused on solving customer business problems and assisting customers in achieving business strategies. Description: Develops concepts and alternative solutions for one or more major system within a division or business unit based on operational issues, customer needs, customer impact and/or industry trends; Understand and evaluate business requirements that impact the Caterpillar enterprise, dealership partners, and other internal and external customers. Based on recognized expertise, is an active participant and can provide project leadership to process partners, management, customers and project teams on the most complex aspect of process development, system integration, and development methods. Maintains close liaison with customers to assure business needs and perception of value are met. Introduces new technologies and develops departmental standard practices for the execution of business processes across functional organizations. Contributes to policies, procedures, and standards as well as technical requirements. Provides project leadership, expert advice, and counsel to IT personnel, management, and project teams on the most complex aspects of data engineering and methods as well as for purchased system solutions that will be integrated with other systems (internally developed and/or purchased) Lead communication across various lines of businesses and technology partners to constantly monitor, collect, review, and roadmap business data requirements, and related technology solutions. Works with customer/operations management to develop plans to minimize the impact of system or procedure changes. Acts as team lead by providing technical leadership, guidance, and assistance to other team members. Liaises with data creators to support project planning, training, guidance on standards, and the efficient creation/maintenance of high-quality data. Ensure compliance with the latest data standards supported by the company, and brand, legal, information security (data security and privacy compliance). Maintain knowledge of functional technology of the data management systems as they change with upgrades and new releases. Accountable to design robust, scalable database and data extraction, transformation and loading (ETL) solutions. Document data models for domains to be deployed including a logical data model, candidate source lists, and canonical formats. Develop data ingestion store specifications identifying source systems and the tables and fields to ingest. Develop data object pipeline specifications including detailed field level mapping, business rules, data quality rules, etc. Creates, updates, and enhances metadata policies, processes and catalogs Drives alignment and coordination of data governance efforts Impacts key quality goals including Customer Satisfaction, Continuous Improvement, Timeliness, Accuracy, Efficiency, Cost Savings, Process Quality. Basic Requirements: 4-year degree from an accredited college or university or equivalent experience 7-years or more of experience in various technology domains including data management (data design, data quality, metadata, governance, etc.) and application/systems management 3 plus years of experience in Architecture and Solution Lead roles with demonstrated technical proficiency Demonstrated experience leading data management and/or software engineering projects. Experience providing technical leadership for major multi-year and platform transformation projects Excellent oral and written communication skills Experience in delivering enterprise solutions Experience setting vision and roadmaps Top Candidate Will Also Have: Accountability, planning/organization, teamwork, and customer focus Highly developed interpersonal skills to deal with sensitive, emotional, or potentially controversial situations Ability to work under pressure and within time constraints Understanding of information management concepts such as controlled vocabularies, authority control, data modeling, and schema design. Knowledge of end-to-end data lifecycle across traditional data warehouses, relational databases, operational data stores, business intelligence reporting, and big data analytics. Understanding of data governance, metadata management, data quality, data modeling, and data architecture concepts Knowledge of data technology products and components for Big Data and Cloud (AWS, Data Lakes, SnowFlake, PowerBI, and similar). Extract, Transformation, Load (ETL) development skills XML and JSON file format knowledge Software development experience with object-oriented/object function scripting languages: Python, Java, Javascript, C , etc Experience with Object Oriented Concepts/Development/Modeling Ability to work collaboratively in a complex, rapidly changing, and culturally diverse environment.
