The Opportunity The Caterpillar European Drivetrain Purchasing team is currently looking for a Supply Collaboration Engineer to be based in the UK working with our UK and mainland European suppliers. As a Supply Collaboration Engineer, you are responsible for collaborating with our suppliers around quality at a part number level. In this role you will partner with other Purchasing team members and Engineering groups to support early supplier collaboration on design for manufacturability, assembly, and costs as well as adherence to APQP. Job Responsibilities and Duties: Collaborating with suppliers and internal customer groups on new part introduction including APQP conformance Ensures the development, analysis, and documentation of cost information supporting new product development, design and cost improvement, maintenance, make versus buy, and other special projects Obtaining quotations and implementing engineering changes on existing part numbers Working closely with the Buyer and Supplier Development Engineer in terms of managing supplier activity Mediates trade off discussions early in the design process to balance performance, quality, velocity, and cost with focus on optimizing value Leads cross functional teams to meet multiple cost opportunity objectives Participate in coaching, training, and collaborating with team members Actively supports priority setting of workload Skills and Experience: Candidates will have gained the following skills and experience through previous roles: A formal Engineering qualification, HNC, Batchelors Degree, with progressive role related experience. Experience executing quality processes with engineering suppliers. Sound knowledge and demonstrated experience of APQP, including the PPAP process, FMEA’s, control plans, process flow, GR&R, and capability studies. A deep understanding of manufacturing processes, manufacturing methods, application of existing manufacturing, engineering, and product knowledge Candidates may have gained the following skills and experience through previous roles: Technical understanding of castings and foundry processes Strong analytical and interpersonal skills Able to perform cost breakdown analysis of a machined part Experience in Drivetrain design, manufacturing or procurement Ability to see issues and forecast future costs so that costs are stable and predictable Perform Total Cost of Ownership. (TCO) Additional Ability to travel as required – up to 25% travel across Europe as needed Knowledge (basic speaking and writing) of another European language than English would be an advantage NB.
