Summary
Under direction, performs the primary responsibilities of that of a massage therapist, esthetician, and/or cosmetologist. Leads and trains lower-level staff, ensuring Ensures facilities and inventories are available for use and consistently maintained in a safe and clean condition; and performs related work as required.
Supervision Received and Exercised
Receives direction from higher-level supervisory staff. Leads and directs lower-level staff.
Distinguishing Characteristics
The Lead Therapist, in addition to the duties and responsibilities as a technician/therapist, is responsible for providing lead direction and training to assigned staff, for ensuring that facilities maintained in a safe and effective working condition, and maintaining appropriate service standards in all areas. These areas are to include, but are not limited to, guest service, treatment execution, cleanliness, and sanitation. Performance requires ability to work independently with initiative and discretion within established guidelines. Work is typically reviewed upon completion for soundness, appropriateness, and conformity to policy and requirements. This classification is distinguished from Supervisor, Spa in that the latter has overall administrative and operational responsibility.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Perform all essential duties and responsibilities of a Massage Therapist, Esthetician, or Cosmetologist; administer treatments underlined by discipline to Island Spa guests as offered on the service menu and as per protocols and standard operating procedures

Provides lead direction and training to lower-level staff; reviews completed work to ensure quality and completeness; provides input to the supervisor on staff performance. Maintains service standards regarding guest interaction, service delivery, and all other company standards.

Evaluates assigned services, including materials and staff resources needed to perform the work; estimates time, materials, and equipment necessary for the successful completion of services; acquires necessary resources as appropriate.

Monitors inventory and notifies supervisor when inventory requires replenishment; conducts monthly inventory of professional stock and linens.

Maintains records and logs of daily activities.

Uses and helps enforce safe working practices and appropriate use of related safety equipment as required.

Ensures facilities are available for use and consistently maintained in a safe and clean condition; prepares and maintains the treatment areas daily, including but not limited to, disinfection, refilling stock and supplies, and reporting needed repairs and maintenance to the supervisor.

Conducts dispensary and product allocation.

Promotes and sells retail products and enhancement services

Ensure overall cleanliness and neatness of the facility, including but not limited to soiled linen, refuse, dishes.

Performs related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education and Experience:
-
High School Diploma or GED; Associate degree preferred.
-
Two (2) years of relevant professional experience, and least one (1) year in a lead capacity.

Any combination of training, education, and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Luxury spa experience preferred.
Knowledge of:
-
Principles and practices of leadership, positive reinforcement, and team dynamics.

An array of modalities that are in line with discipline of licensure
-
Principles and practices of supervision and leadership, including work planning, assignment review, evaluation, discipline, and training.

Operational characteristics of a variety of tools and equipment.

All services provided by Island Spa Catalina and working knowledge of all other company offerings.

Relevant laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures, especially those relating to spa and spa services.

Occupational hazards and related safety precautions.

Principles and practices of administrative procedures, recordkeeping, and inventory.

Principles and techniques for fostering effective work groups, inter-departmental relations, and community partnerships while providing high level of customer service.

Modern office practices, methods, and computer equipment and applications related to the work.
Ability to:

Provide all treatments on the spa service menu as per discipline and within the guidelines of state licensure.

Effectively provide leadership and work direction to staff.

Perform a minimum of 5 service hours per shift.

Review work to be performed and identify resources necessary to complete the work.

Monitor and enforce laws, regulations, policies, and procedures.

Respond appropriately to changing and/or stressful situations.

Understand, interpret, and apply all relevant laws, codes, regulations, policies, and procedures.

Independently organize work, set priorities, meet deadlines, and follow up on assignments.

Demonstrate strong customer service skills and establish, maintain, and foster positive and effective working relationships.

Ability to sell and merchandise retail products and upsell services.

Use English effectively to communicate in person, over the telephone, and in writing. Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.

Learn new concepts in the spa industry
Licenses and Certifications:

First aid and CPR certified preferred.

License in a discipline of either Massage Therapy, Esthetics, Cosmetology. Dual licensure preferred
