CATALOG is a well-funded, rapidly expanding, Boston-basedp on a mission to enable new paradigms for data preservation and computation. We are looking for a motivated scientist with molecular biology and NGS experience to work with an interdisciplinary team of biologists, engineers, and computer scientists. You will be responsible for standardizing DNA data storage workflow steps: purification, amplification, sequencing, and decoding large sets of information-encoding synthetic DNA molecules. As part of our rapidly expanding group, you will help to optimize processes and pipeline workflows for the generation of molecular datasets at a scale enabling novel applications for the world’s first DNA storage and computing platform.
In this role you will:
-
Develop, document, and implement routine workflows to efficiently process DNA datasets for delivery to R&D teams and collaborators
-
Optimize and manage equipment and protocols for qPCR, DNA size selection, NGS library prep, nanopore sequencing, HPLC, etc.
-
Create in-process QC methods and metrics to monitor each processing step and quality of completed DNA datasets.
-
Continuously improve workflows to increase efficiency, quality, and throughput of pipeline process
-
Collaborate with software team on design of interfaces for internal coding and decoding algorithms and creation of data tracking tools
We are looking for someone driven by:
-
The opportunity to bring a ground-breaking technology to market
-
Creating a pipeline process that will efficiently scale to meet future goals and throughput demands
-
An environment demanding fast-paced collaborative learning across multiple disciplines
You will also need to be able to:
-
Work comfortably with Python scripts and software programs still in development
-
Create data visualizations to summarize large datasets
-
Collaborate and communicate effectively while balancing multiple projects and competing priorities
Ideally, we are looking for someone with:
-
PhD in molecular biology or related field with 2 years of practical industry experience, or a BS/MS with 5 years of industry experience
-
Hands-on experience with NGS sample prep, sequencing instruments and sequence data analysis
-
Experience developing detailed laboratory protocols and training colleagues
-
A quality-focused mindset suitable for developing and maintaining a manufacturing or lab services pipeline
-
Excellent record-keeping habits and familiarity with statistical process control
-
Proven project management skills and an interest in supervising junior members of the team
-
The confidence to respectfully share ideas, accept constructive input, and learn from failures
A career at CATALOG will challenge you to think critically and work creatively in order to conquer new problems in an unexplored and groundbreaking field. To do this, we must build an inclusive team with different points of view. CATALOG supports and celebrates diversity in our workforce. We provide competitive compensation packages and benefits including medical, dental, and vision insurance, 401(k) with company matching, and unlimited PTO.
