YOUTH PREVENTION COORDINATOR

$18.00 - $20.50 Hourly: Non-Exempt

JOB DESCRIPTION: The Youth Prevention Coordinator will provide all direct services for youth and young adults up to the age of 24 under the administration of the Tribal Behavioral Health Grant, also known as the Native Connections, targeting mental wellness promotion, substance use/misuse prevention, and suicide prevention. The Youth Prevention Specialist is responsible for direct services, case management, community outreach, intake and assessment, activities coordination, participant enrollment, and will serve as a liaison for other community youth and young adult programs. Major duties will include recruiting youth and young adult participants up to age 24, developing and implementing evidence-based prevention programs, activity participation and/or lead facilitator, and developing and implementing a program strategic plan. They will plan and coordinate planning and coordinating outreach events, activities, and meetings.

This position supports this portion of the CIN Mission by promoting cultural heritage, strong self-esteem, and working towards a successful life for youth, young adults, and their families. The Youth Prevention Specialist reports to the Youth Program Manager. This program falls under the Division of Health and Human Services.

This position is responsible for and subject to the CIN Personnel Policies and Procedures Manual and Policies and Procedures for CIN Health and Human Services.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Perform screening and intake for youth and young adult program participants.
  • Manage recruitment of youth and young adult participants.
  • Implement culturally appropriate evidence-based prevention programs.
  • Prepare reports for grant purposes.
  • Perform case management services for participants.
  • Adhere to grant program mission and vision.
  • Adhere to policies and procedures of the program.
  • Initiate community-based planning and organizing activities.
  • Create and maintain program and participants files.
  • Develop and implement an operating plan for the Native Connections grant and serve as a leader in the development implementation of a tribal action plan.
  • Serve as a community liaison for schools and partnering agencies.
  • Develop and conduct educational outreach to tribal and non-tribal organizations to increase visibility of program and services.
  • Lead facilitator for individual and group activities.

Administer data collection and evaluation instruments among participants.

  • Act as Community Resource Development for youth and young adults.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Associate degree in Education, Humans Services, or a related field or 3 years’ experience working with youth and young adults and counseling.
  • Ability to attend training’s and classes as required.
  • Ability to travel throughout the country.
  • Ability to work evenings and/or weekends as required.
  • Possess a clean, valid state Driver’s License and be insurable under the Tribe’s insurance policy.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, Human Services, or related field AND 1 year experience in related field.
  • Time management skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to learn and understand Catawba culture and how it relates to prevention.
  • Ability to maintain effective, professional, and courteous working relationships and demeanor with other employees and the public at all times.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; bend so as to open/use lower drawers or cabinetry; talk, hear, and see. The employee is frequently required to sit. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
