Business Process Specialist

Career Area: Information Technology Job Description: Respond to customer needs by interpreting business requirements into detailed function specifications and if necessary, for managing requests for changes to the specifications. Document all findings and provide training where necessary. Facilitate process design changes by testing new software and integrating new systems or processes with existing ones. Also responsible for product planning, budgeting, marketing and funding negotiations. Beyond the completion of its own work, the position assigns and reviews the day to day work of other employees. It provides information for performance evaluations but is not solely responsible for personnel issues. Typical internal customers include a Department or Business/Service Unit in a Division. The position's primary customers are internal. The position is challenged to quickly and correctly identify problems which may not be obvious. The incumbent solves problems by determining the best course of action, within departmental guidelines, from many existing solutions. The incumbent sets priorities and establishes a work plan in order to complete broadly defined assignments and achieve desired results. Impacts key quality goals including Customer Satisfaction, Continuous Improvement, Timeliness, Accuracy, Efficiency, Cost Savings, Process Quality, Part Quality, Vendor Certification, etc. The position meets or exceeds quality. Moderate travel required (5% - 15% of working time). BACKGROUND/EXPERIENCE: Requires a relevant degree or equivalent experience. The incumbent should be knowledgeable of the current technology in programming languages; computing hardware and software environments; and current development processes and tools. In addition, the incumbent should have an expert knowledge of the business goals and proficiency in the processes performed by the customers they represent as well as Caterpillar policies and procedures, and a general understanding of Caterpillar’s organization.
