Job Description:

The corporate quality department leads the enterprise in setting and achieving the corporate quality goals. It champions quality improvement initiatives and provides visibility into the current status of the corporate and individual product group quality performance. The department is responsible for defining and deploying processes, systems, and tools required to manage the quality of the enterprise. Its members work with product groups, engineering, purchasing, manufacturing, sales & service, IT and senior leadership to ensure execution of quality strategies and plans.

The manager of global quality translates our customers’ quality expectations to product quality goals. The position will provide enterprise expertise in quality voice of customer and achieved quality performance. In addition, the manager of global quality will provide quality and technical leadership while overseeing end-to-end product life cycle quality.

The responsibilities of this position include:

  • Management of the global quality team

  • Communicate quality recommendations to senior leaders

  • Ability to build relationships and work close with the business support community

  • Broad, comprehensive knowledge of Caterpillar’s quality processes, tools and data

  • Development of Caterpillar’s quality vision and strategy

  • Owner for enterprise quality metric definition and target setting

  • Technical and strategic resource for quality to senior leadership and executive office

  • Data owner for SIMS and quality data

  • Own/Manage quality systems landscape

  • Corporate representative to external quality industry communities

  • Champion of a quality culture

  • Industry VOC benchmarking for quality

  • Lead chairman’s excellence recognition process

Qualifications:

  • Engineering or Technical degree with a focus on design or product support

  • 10 years of engineering experience covering design, analysis, and test roles

  • 5 years of product quality manager experience

  • 3 years of current product support or CPI experience

  • Management experience in a technical organization

  • Strong analytical skills

  • Broad exposure to Caterpillar’s prime product lines, applications, and systems

  • NPI experience

  • Demonstrated ability to work in a diverse team environment across matrix organizations

  • Strong communication skills.

  • Internal/External technical consulting experience

Desired:

  • Experience with reliability engineering concepts and techniques

  • Management experience, including leader of leaders, in a technical organization

  • Advanced technical degree with a focus on design or analytics

  • 5 years of current product support or CPI experience

  • Prime product and component NPI experience – completing at least 2 cycles – CPPD experience

  • External experience in product development or quality management

  • Experience coordinating process and IT tool enhancement projects

  • 6 Sigma experience – Black Belt or Greenbelt Project Lead

  • Lean Experience – Built in Quality (BIQ)

Global Quality provides tools and processes that are visible and used by dealers. These tools and processes are the key to continually deliver higher quality products to our customer and dealers. Since these have external visibility and usage, Caterpillar must continue to improve them to stay relevant in the marketplace. This role also provides training to ensure all people who interact with them understand the proper usage.
