Catholic Charities of Baltimore is currently seeking a Teaching Assistant - Classroom, who will be responsible for providing treatment, care, and assistance of children in Elementary and Middle School setting. TA’s will actively supervise and help children with all learning needs and daily living activities, implement the agency CARE philosophy, approved behavioral intervention and support system and Individual Education Plans, (IEP), recreational and educational opportunities and maintain the therapeutic structure in each setting. The work schedule is Monday – Friday, 8:30am – 4:00pm.
Villa Maria School provides educational and clinical services for children with significant emotional, behavioral, and learning challenges. We offer multiple programs serving students from kindergarten through 8th grade in small classrooms (up to nine students) who are experiencing emotional, behavioral, and learning challenges such that their local school system refers them to VMS for placement.

Job Duties & Responsibilities
- Assists teachers in the classroom by helping with the implementation of class lesson plans and providing individual or small-group instruction as directed to ensure that curriculum and IEP goals are met.
- Serves as substitute for absent teachers as assigned.
- Escorts children within and between buildings and to and from various appointments to always ensure adequate supervision of children. Includes driving children for appointments, field trips, etc.
- Provides crisis intervention including recognizing and deescalating problem and provide resolution.
- Contacts teachers, parents, therapists, and counselors to effectively communicate information regarding children's progress.
- Supports classroom and /or a specific child as 1:1 coverage.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Teaching Assistant Classroom (TAC) (530500):
- Scheduled for 8:30a-4p M-F
- Assigned Teacher’s PTO package
- High School/GED and 1 year of experience working with special populations
- Successful completion of Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI), and Children and Residential Experiences (CARE) within 6 months of hire.
- Shows reliability by being punctual; maintains consistent attendance.
- Requires the capacity to relate to severely emotionally disabled children in a sensitive, understanding, and insightful manner.
- Requires ability to accurately assess and document information for incident reports and Behavior Management documents.
- Requires ability to assess problem situations and apply the most effective yet least restrictive intervention within established therapeutic goals.
- Good relational skills with courteous demeanor toward staff, clients, and visitors.
- Ability to utilize, or willingness to learn computer systems and software, necessary to perform position functions. (Basic computer, web browsing, online training, and email usage skills).
- Medium work that includes moving objects up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to meet the physical demands of the job (i.e., on feet most of the day, running, being physically active/playing with the students, etc.).
- Requires physical ability to intervene and restrain children in crisis situations.
- Requires the ability to acquire and maintain TCI certification to demonstrated continued compliance with the established TCI competencies.
- Moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one work site to another.
- Driving (Agency and/or personal vehicle) is required for this position. Driver must be at least 21 years of age, with a minimum of 2 years of driving experience, and a valid driver’s license issued by the state of residence. There can be no state issued restrictions on the licenses that would impede driver’s ability to operate the vehicle as required by the Agency, and there must not be more than three (3) points on their driving record.
