Role Description
This is a full-time, on-site role for a Senior Investment Accountant at Catholic Life Insurance in San Antonio, TX. The Senior Investment Accountant will be responsible for financial accounting and reporting functions for investments, and assist in the preparation and reporting of financial accounting for these investments.
Essential Functions
- Recording, reconciling and reporting investment transactions, following statutory accounting guidelines and regulatory reporting requirements
- Provides support for regulatory requirements and filings in licensed states
- Assist with preparation of the Annual/Quarterly Statements
- Provides support for monthly financial statement reporting
- Prepare, validate, analyze and interpret large amounts of data which cross over various accounting functions
- Prepare, analyze and interpret information for general operating expense analysis
- Reconcile various accounting items such as: sub ledgers, general ledger, policy and account detail
- Prepare, review and/or approve check requests and journal entries for accurate processing
- Assist with organization and preparation of supporting documentation for annual audits and regulatory examinations
- Assist with various projects as assigned
- Backup team members in the unit/department
Supervisory Responsibility
This position may have direct supervisory responsibilities and/or may serve as a coach/mentor for other positions in the unit.
Work Environment
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, calculators, phones, photocopiers, and fax machines.
Physical Demands
This is a largely sedentary role, must be able to remain in a stationary position at least 50% of the time. Filing, printing, faxing, scanning and copying is required; this requires the ability to move about the office and position self to access equipment and file cabinets, transport items (files, box of paper, etc.) weighing up to 20 lbs., and ascend/descend step ladder/stool as necessary. The position requires extended hours in front of a computer screen and operation of a computer and other office equipment such as a calculator and copy machine. This position requires the ability to communicate and exchange accurate information via telephone and in person.
Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. Regular office hours are Monday - Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Fridays are from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand. This position requires face to face and in-person interaction and requires the incumbent to be in the office during regular office hours to access information kept on-site.

Required Education and Experience
- College or University Degree in Accounting
- Minimum five year accounting experience
- LOMA Level 1 Certification (281 & 291). Company sponsored certification required as part of initial training plan upon hire.
Preferred Education and Experience
- Certified Public Accountant
- External audit experience
- Insurance and statutory accounting experience
- Minimum two years experience in investment accounting
- Experience with various accounting and reporting software
