Finance Director
This role will lead financial management, some administration, and oversee major projects planned within the Strategic Plan.
The Finance Director will build and oversee effective and streamlined business operations for finance, accounting, planning, human resources, and general administration. As a member of the senior management team, the Finance Director will report to the Executive Director and work closely with the organizations’ managers. They will participate actively in organization-level planning and decision-making. This is a very hands-on position that requires non-profit accounting experience and experience with Quickbooks for accounting and reporting.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Financial Management
- Supports ED and Finance Committee of the Board in managing financial strategy and risk; collaborates on treasury management and managing investments in partnership with the Board and investment advisors.
- Prepares financial analysis and reports for the ED, Finance Committee and Board.
- Leads the annual budgeting process for all cost centers in collaboration with the ED, cost center managers, and facilitates the annual data input of the same.
- Maintains rolling cash flow projections and monitors liquidity needs.
- Works with outsourced accountants; ensures that financial reporting is accurate and reflects GAAP; works with accountants and staff to ensure books are closed monthly and the annual audit flows efficiently.
- Reviews organization and program budget vs. actual results monthly and discusses variances with ED and other staff.
- Reviews and approves expenses, ensuring coding is accurate
- Supports payroll and benefits functions in collaboration with Operations Director.
- Supports compliance with grant funder requirements and assists Development Director with obtaining information for funder-requested reports.
- In partnership with Development Director and outsourced accountants, monitors restricted grant spend down, assigns expenses to grants, and maintains restricted net asset schedule.
- Formulates and recommends sound fiscal policies, systems, procedures, tools, and controls, including a Fiscal Procedures Manual. Oversees the development of, and adherence to, internal control policies.
- Leads the audit process in collaboration with outsourced accountants.
- Oversees relationships with vendors and banks; manages organization insurance coverage.
- Manages the Accounts Payable function, including processing, monitoring and administering of all consultant contracts and related documents.
- Establishes a cash management system, and an efficient credit card and expense report processing system.
Administration
- Coordinates with the ED and Operations Director, on effective delivery of needed human resources function (e.g., compensation and benefits, employee lifecycle, and employee relations).
- Works closely with the Operations Director on IT and other systems.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in related field required; MBA or CPA, preferred
- Minimum 5 years of relevant, progressive work experience, preferably in a nonprofit setting
- Strong knowledge of GAAP as applied to nonprofit accounting
- Demonstrated experience in financial management and accounting, including experience in audit, compliance, contracts, and budget
- Experience overseeing or working with human resources

- Knowledge of Club Automation a plus
