Your duties will include but are not limited to: -Measuring, applying, changing, repairing, and removing casts, braces, and splints. -Educating patients and their families. -Coordinating resident and nursing in-service programs. -Meeting with sales representatives to review new/different products used in cast application. Job Details Responsibilities: Measures, applies, changes and removes casts, braces and splints for patients. Repairs casts. Applies and instructs patient in the use of durable medical equipment. Removes dressings, sutures and staples. Prepares patients for exams and special procedures. Identifies and reports changes in patient status to RN and/or MD. Initiates CPR and emergency measures as required. Assists in transporting patients. Provides health education to patients and families. Ensures supplies are stocked and equipment is in safe working order. Maintains all designated work areas in a neat, orderly manner. Facilitates the smooth operation of the outpatient clinic desk. Coordinates resident and nursing in-service programs and presentations. Meets with sales representatives to review and evaluate new/different products in conjunction with Physicians. Demonstrates accurate and descriptive clinical documentation using EPIC note format. Obtains and documents patient's weight, vital signs and initial information for providers as assigned. Conducts initial assessment of patients with orthopedic pathology. Presents case to the physician's assistant, fellow, or attending. Assists with sterile prepping for aspirations and injections. Removes sutures/staples and provide wound care. Education: Current demonstrated clinical competence. Ability to work independently without direct supervision. Understanding of human anatomy sufficient to perform duties of the job. Basic knowledge of math. Good verbal, written and interpersonal skills. Knowledge of infection control practices. Ability to function in a variety of medical situations. Languages: N/A Certifications: American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification. Work Experience: Minimum one year experience as a cast technician and with dispensing of DME in an Orthopedic Clinic or Hospital patient care setting or in a related position in the operating room or other related patient care setting. Physical Requirements: Requires full range of motion, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Requires standing or sitting for extensive periods of time. Able to lift and transfer patients. Requires some exposure to body fluids and proper use of personal protective equipment. Personal Protective Equipment: Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
