We are seeking a Permit Technician who will assist with permit research and applications for various governmental, quasi-governmental, and utility bodies. They will monitor progress of applications and help facilitate jurisdictional requests for additional information because of the application review process.
Responsibilities
- Follow statement of work (SOW) guidelines to provide accurate permitting documentation and escalate issues through appropriate channels.
- Work onsite as needed to conduct field investigations, photograph site locations, identify land usage, measure exact distances, and prepare sketches of existing problems or proposals to assist the Building Official and Code Enforcement.
- Research permit and inspection information as needed.
- Review applications for completeness and accuracy.
- Compile, coordinate, and distribute all construction documents to the appropriate authority for review and ultimate approval for permit issuance.
- Prepare, submit, and track various types of permits such as: railroad, DOT, pole, etc.
- Assist customers with permit review application and inspection process to ensure compliance with various codes.
- Process applications for services or permits. Report charges for services to be performed.
- Receive and enter incoming work from various sources (email, PDFs, paper, FTP sites, customer databases, etc.) into online database software accurately, and within established timeframes.
- Compile, enter data, and create necessary permitting reports.
- Follow all safety guidelines establish by the company and/or customer.
- Create and promote the company image through exercising sound and ethical business practices as related to employees, the public and customers. This includes ensuring that service and quality provided to customers is satisfactory.
- Ensure confidentiality of company information.
- Other duties or special projects, as assigned.
Requirements
- 2 years of cable mapping experience a must.
- Experience with various types of permitting.
- Production based permitting experience preferred.
- Good knowledge of city and state ordinances, rules, regulations, and standards in issuing permits.
- Comprehensive knowledge of the fielding process with hands on experience in CATV as-built and new build walkouts.
- Knowledge of cable design and basic construction practices of cable systems with ability to read field walkout maps.
- Proficient in MS word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Ability to update and/or create PDF maps for permits using Bluebeam or PDF editor.
- Ocalc, span master, ruling span, njuns software experience preferred.
- Keen attention to detail and the ability to spot errors and inconsistencies.
- Customer service mindset.
- Must have the ability to multi-task, handle interruptions & prioritize workloads.
- Must have strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Must be able to take direction and work independently.
- Willingness to learn; adapt and accept increased responsibility.
- Must be responsible, self-motivated, and able to work effectivity in a remote location.

Additional Information
- Travel will be on an “as needed” basis, approximately 25% nationwide.
- Exposure to rough adverse terrain, construction sites, heavy equipment, and inclement weather.
