Job Summary:
The Buyer is a key member of the Supply Chain Organization and will be responsible for various buying, contract administration, and materials management activities to ensure efficient and effective response to internal and external customer requirements. He or she will identify and develop new opportunities to add value and reduce costs. They must have demonstrated success in driving cost reductions, inventory management and supply chain improvements across a broad range of materials, processes and commodities. The buyer also operates with a fair degree of autonomy and they are a key representative of the supply chain organization with the responsibility for primary communications with our supply chain partners. In addition, familiarity with the operation principles of lean manufacturing, Kanban, 5S, and other continuous improvement programs would be helpful to drive out waste in our business. The Buyer will successfully manage multiple Supplier accounts to reduce costs, improve on-time delivery, and overall quality. Additionally, the position will place a special emphasis on the improvement of our Purchase Finish Goods ( Buy/Sell) Processes to reduce effort in managing this critical portion of our supply chain.
The ideal candidate will be hands-on and possess a high level of drive, integrity and energy. The individual should have the ability to motivate peers and to work toward common objectives through communication and understanding. Strong team experience and demonstrated ability to improve systems and peers. It is also important that this individual have good quantitative analytical skills.

Duties/Responsibilities:
- Review daily purchasing reports and determine the proper quantities and parts to purchase; create the purchasing documents
- Develop a thorough understanding of market conditions affecting cost and material availability
- Prepare requests for proposal/quotation and evaluate responses
- Maintain inventory availability while minimizing working capital investment
- Evaluate part usage patterns to make decisions to control Inventory while maintaining appropriate customer service levels. Conduct ABC analysis on all parts.
- DMAIC (Define, measure, analyze, improve and control) approach to excess and obsolete inventory
- Negotiate with suppliers for materials, equipment and supplies
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with sales and key suppliers
- Maintain accurate product information, purchasing, pricing and cost data on applicable company systems
- Maintains all planning parameters in QAD database for assigned component parts in addition to new component requirements
- Follow up with suppliers concerning order status and delivery and communicate delivery information to impacted departments
- Evaluate supplier performance related to on-time delivery, fill rates and errors, transfer cost improvements, and other measures
- Attend and participate on cross functional teams tasked with solving quality problems
- Ensure compliance with standard policies, procedures, internal audit, and quality control processes; understand and support TS standards and support company procedures for document control, purchasing, process control, corrective and preventative action, and control of quality records
- Ensure that all TS documentation is current and being observed

Required Skills/Abilities:

- Good attention to detail to ensure all purchase orders are accurate
- Excellent negotiation skills, with an understanding of cost analysis
- Ability to multi-task and drive actions to completion under strict deadlines
- Demonstrate clear written and verbal communication skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office with above Average Excel skills and the ability to analyze data
- Must have experience with an ERP software, such as Oracle, BAAN, or SAP (QAD preferred)
- Strong self-starter who can articulate effectively to management and peers to bring about effective change
- Working conditions include a normal office environment with interaction with the shop floor (both Union and Non Union environments)

Education and Experience:
- Bachelor degree required
- Preferred degree is in business administration, supply chain, distribution management or some other relevant field
- 3-5 years working in procurement, materials, engineering experience in manufacturing environment
- CPIM / CPM preferred
