OVERVIEW:
Catholic Charities is committed to providing family-centered, neighborhood-based, wraparound services to help lift families out of poverty and thrive. With a focus of supporting families on the pathway to self-sufficiency, our agency collaborates with parishes in the Diocese of San Jose to provide access to vital services to vulnerable and high-needs members of our communities. The Community Resource Coordinator at Catholic Charities is a key member of the Parish Engagement team within the Advocacy and Community Engagement (ACE) department. The position reports to the Program Manager for Parish Engagement.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The primary focus of this role is to coordinate services and resources to empower communities and individuals in need. Responsibilities include supporting partnerships and collaborative activities with local parishes, organizing opportunities for access to agency services, engaging volunteers from parish communities, and coordinating workshops and events to facilitate service access and build awareness of needs. In addition, the Community Resource Coordinator represents the agency at diocesan events, and supports the agency’s collaborative efforts with the Diocesan Office of Life, Justice and Peace.
In addition to these general responsibilities, the Community Resource Coordinator is tasked with specific activities, including coordinating Community Markets at parish and other community sites providing ‘one-stop shopping’ for crucial services, coordinating the Accompaniment program and engaging volunteers to support individual clients in this transformative program, providing Service Guidance to walk-in clients and newcomers, and supporting Drop-In services such as the Clothes Closet and Shower Van. To enhance versatility and provide comprehensive support to all locations, all Community Resource Coordinator will undergo cross-training across various program sites.
The ideal candidate for this position will share a commitment to the agency's mission of disrupting poverty and supporting families on the path towards self-sufficiency. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, organizational and multitasking abilities, cultural sensitivity, and the ability to build positive relationships with various stakeholders are essential. Bilingual language skills in either Spanish or Vietnamese are required for this role.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Community Resource Coordinator will be responsible for, but may not be limited to, the following:
- Support the day-to-day relationships with parish partners and program sites contributing to effective and positive partnerships.
- Foster a welcoming and supportive environment for individuals seeking assistance with a practice of trauma-informed care and seamless welcome to agency services.
- Collaborate with programs across the agency to provide access to agency services at parish locations and community sites within a model of integrated service delivery.
- Coordinate the logistics of Community Markets at parish locations and other community sites ensuring the accessibility of vital resources and services including coordinating agency services at the markets, collaborating with volunteers and community stakeholders, and recruiting other community resources to participate in the markets.
- Under the supervision of the program manager, coordinate the Accompaniment program including enrolling qualifying clients, recruiting & training volunteers, and overseeing the progress of participants in the program.
- Provide Service Guidance at Community Markets and to walk-in clients, assisting them in navigating available agency services, process client intakes, and make referrals to agency services and to the agency’s Service Guide team.
- Provide Service Guidance to newcomers, and serve as a point of contact for the agency’s internal rapid response service for migrants.
- Support the management of drop-in services, including the Clothes Closet and Shower Van, to meet immediate needs within the community, and collaborate with volunteers for effective delivery of services.
- Help plan and execute special events aimed at community engagement, awareness and training under the direction of the program manager. Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure the success of events.
- Serve as a representative of Catholic Charities at diocesan and community events, establishing positive relationships and promoting the agency's mission.
- Collaborate with and support team members across the ACE department in advocacy, community voice, volunteer engagement and parish relations.
- Document services and maintain client files to ensure completion of all core services in a timely manner through AWARDS (client management software) to support data collection and reporting.
QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor's degree in any relevant field (social work, community development, etc.) preferred.
- Previous experience in service coordination, community engagement, or related roles.
- Previous experience working with parishes preferred.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Bilingual in Spanish or Vietnamese required.
- Demonstrated ability to engage with diverse communities and establish positive relationships with multiple community stakeholders.
- Cultural sensitivity and awareness, with the ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds, respecting various cultural nuances.
- Ability to provide empathetic and effective service guidance to individuals seeking assistance, ensuring a client-centered approach.
- Experience in trauma-informed care (TIC) and/or a willingness to be trained in TIC.
- Proven experience in coordinating and managing programs, preferably in a community engagement or social services context.
- Experience recruiting and coordinating volunteers.
- Proven skills in planning and coordinating special events.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational and multitasking abilities, including the capacity to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
- Flexibility and adaptability to navigate evolving priorities, unforeseen challenges, and changing community needs.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to think critically to address challenges and find innovative solutions.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively within a team environment and establish effective partnerships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Proficient in using relevant software and technology for program coordination, data management, and communication purposes.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to use a computer workstation.
- Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time.
- Ability to travel/drive around Santa Clara County
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
- Criminal background check via livescan fingerprint.
- Must have TB test performed and submit results.
- Provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination and booster status.
- Automobile, valid driver’s license and auto insurance per agency policy; or have access to reliable transportation.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- The Community Resource Coordinator will need to travel throughout Santa Clara County on a regular basis. Mileage reimbursement available.
- Some work may be conducted at associated parishes, including but no limited to, Saint Mary’s Parish in Gilroy and Our Lady for Refuge in San Jose.
HOURS AND OTHER CONDITIONS:
- Standard office hours are Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
- This is a full-time, non-exempt role. Some evenings and weekends may be needed for workshops, meetings and off hours support as needed.
