Overview
General Description
The Social Work (SW) Intern is a collaborative member of the STHS- RRH families and Singles Program within CCS. They support the goal of working to end homelessness by providing assistance with the case management of all households seeking assistance. The SW Intern helps households identify their goals related to medical, substance use, financial, mental health, housing, legal, vocational, transportation, and family needs while developing strategies to achieve their housing goals. The SW Intern assists clients with self-sufficiency and financial independence by collaborating with them to develop a Housing Stability Plan that may include resource referral, counseling and guidance around affordable housing placement. The position may also include special projects such as: housing navigations services, landlord development, Coordinated Entry research, data entry and developing client satisfaction feedback processes.
Responsibilities
- Develops and maintains comprehensive protocols for identifying and promoting self-sufficiency in participants, working with Veteran households to obtain new skills and to resolve problems in collaboration with a Case Manager.
- Works directly with Veteran clients in identifying barriers to self-sufficiency and developing goals and objectives for overcoming these barriers through a Needs Assessment process. Identifies strengths and needs and makes referrals to available VA and community resources to meet those needs. Update client paper and electronic files to track individual needs, assessments and strategies.
- Outreach Veterans in the community to screen Veterans for services, explain the benefits of various resources and navigate them to permanent housing programs.
- Assists with developing a Housing Stability Plan with each Veteran household and facilitate meetings as needed to provide Veteran households with an opportunity to review program requirements, discuss concerns and/or ideas and provide updates on new activities.
- Tracks and enters relevant data into CCS Clarity and KC HMIS on a timely basis and maintains complete and organized files. This includes entering case notes in DAP format.
- Coordinates with CCS, VA and any other service provider working to meet the needs of Veterans and their families
- Provides crisis intervention with supervisor when needed.
- Responds to inquiries, phone calls, and e-mail in a timely and responsive manner.
- Attends provider meetings in the community.
- Attends weekly staff meetings.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Clear communicator (both verbal and written), organized with effective time management skills, demonstrating a willingness to learn and adapt, with the highest standards of behavior, collaborative manner and work ethic.
- Meet Social Work Practicum guidelines as outlined by Seattle University.
- As a prerequisite, the successful candidate must believe in the core values of trauma informed care and be driven by the mission of Catholic Community Services.
- Enrolled in participating Social Work program.
- A legal resident of the United States.
- Ability to establish and maintain professional boundaries in working with clients.
- Ability to manage multiple projects with demanding and competing deadlines, superior organizational skills and the ability to maintain a quality work place in a diverse, fast paced, stressful and changing environment.
- Ability to work independently.
- Demonstrates professional development by participating in and seeking training opportunities.
- Demonstrates a positive attitude, self-motivation, organization, and resourcefulness while maintaining a reputation through proven action of being team and client oriented and willing to assist where/when needed.
- Ability to negotiate different personalities and work under competing priorities.
- Able to pass CCS background check.

- Knowledge of local social services and other community resources.
- Experience with housing location, landlord/tenant mediation.
