Lab Tech I

Conducts assigned tests and records results on materials, molds, basic shapes, custom products and prototype products to ensure conformance to specifications.  Troubleshoots issues with non-conformance.   ESSENTIAL DUTIES Secures the project test package and verifies that all procedures, drawings and samples necessary for the test are in place. Plans, organizes and test schedules and work assignments based on communicated priorities.  Prepares and sets up test equipment. Performs a variety of routine and complex physical tests/analyses on materials, products and components according to established ASTM procedures, customer test requirements and technical advice from Engineer. Helps determine chemical and physical characteristics or composition.  Tests for such qualities as purity, stability, viscosity, density, absorption, hardness, tensile, and compression, burning rate, melting or flash points, etc.  Tests for presence and content of elements, substances, or impurities. Collects and records required test, material, product and process documentation. Machines, blends or molds test specimens using shop equipment and machinery. Prepares test reports. Maintains electronic and hard copy lab files, equipment and instrumentation history, maintenance and calibration logs and library of ASTM and ISO standards and specifications. Assists engineers with product development by providing input on test results and analysis from product testing experience.  Assists with development of new test resources as required. Ensures that all materials necessary for the maintenance of the test area are in stock.  This includes hand wipes, solvents, cleaning solutions, etc.  Maintains test equipment per procedures.  Performs calibration and certification of test equipment per requirements. Maintains safety materials and ensures that all hazardous material is disposed of properly   REQUIREMENTS High School diploma required.  Training and coursework in materials, laboratory testing, engineering and/or related technical classes or equivalent hands-on experience preferred.   WORK ENVIRONMENT Spends 100% of time in the lab. May be exposed to possible shop hazards including heavy machinery, fumes, dust, heat and high pressure and temperatures.
