Overview:
CDL Utilities has an immediate opening for a skilled and reliable Telecom Project Manager. We are looking for a hard-working individual comfortable visiting multiple job sites and municipalities daily, conducting preliminary job inspections and surveys, and working directly with the head of operations to prepare and schedule jobs for field work. The Telecom Project Manager will review customer-provided job requirements (referrals, prints, etc.) and develop detailed mappings of the site with a proposed approach (underground, aerial, internal, splicing) after visiting the site. This documentation will then be used by the Company crews when they visit the site to complete the work. We primarily work with local commercial clients on Long Island, but some travel may be necessary. Our ideal candidate has experience with utility markouts and permitting and knowledge of construction relating to underground, aerial telephone, cable tv, and fiber optic drops, and fiber splicing to homes and businesses.
Responsibilities:
- Visiting job sites and conducting preliminary inspections and surveys.
- Responsible for the field survey, design, engineering, as-built, and quality control for all construction jobs.
- Complete field survey of a path for a new cable to be installed within a building, conduit run or aerial pole path. Access to confined locations may be required. Capture all the information related to the path using system prints, red lines, walk wheel, and various tool of technology
- Developing detailed hand-drawings of job sites with accurate dimensions and proposed approaches in a step-by-step method of procedure.
- Scheduling of utility markouts (location of utility lines underground) and submission of documentation for local permits.
- Ability to meet with representatives from different municipalities and review proposed projects, file, and submit permit applications, track the application, and follow up on its approval. Be able to communicate with other CDL employees to obtain any required information the municipality would request such as bonds and insurance documents or payments.
- Ability to meet with homeowners and business owners to obtain permission and schedule access to property.
- Ability to communicate with third parties to obtain resources and services, as necessary.
- Communicating findings and special situations to company coordinators and crew leaders.
- Must be able to work on ladders both 28-foot extension and step up to 8-foot-high step ladders.
- Work directly with our customers in the field, take and perform calls and email to update on project status and share documentation on each project with co-workers.
- Track new and ongoing projects.
- Managing and reviewing schedule with team leads each morning at 6:30 AM.
Qualifications:
- College Degree in Engineering, Telecommunications or related field experience preferred.
- 2 years’ experience in fiber optic construction installation and maintenance.
- Knowledge of underground, aerial, internal, MDU, and fiber optic design and construction.
- Possess knowledge of fiber optic filters and CWDM filter splicing and testing.
- Prior experience in the utility or utility marking field, utility construction industry, or related construction fields.
- Ability to read prints and interpret utility maps to identify the type and size of underground, aerial, and internal utilities.
- Ability to read design and system prints for HFC and FTTH.
- Ability to travel for short periods of time in Nassau and Suffolk Counties.
- Must be authorized to work in the United States.
- Must be able to pass drug, criminal, and background checks.
- A valid driver’s license.
- Excellent customer service skill sets.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills to communicate effectively with team members and/or customers.
- Proactive and organized individual who has excellent follow through skills, comfortable meeting with customers, excellent time management, self-motivated individual.
- Excellent communicator who can coordinate multiple moving parts (project goals and deadlines) and multiple customer tracking.
- Superb timeline tracking and daily reporting skills on Excel, MS Office, other project management technology a plus.
- Proficiency in MS Office products (e.g., Word, Excel, SharePoint, OneDrive)
- Must have excellent follow through skills, be detail-oriented and be able to develop and manage accurate data.
- Other duties as assigned.
You will report out of Hicksville, NY. You will also visit jobsites and municipalities throughout Long Island as required.
