JOB SUMMARY
The Senior Accountant reports to the Accounting Supervisor and has a diverse skillset including proficiency in technical accounting, accurate and detailed balance sheet reconciliations, efficient and timely month-end and year-end close, robust audit support and attention to detail, and adherence to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
The Senior Accountant will be assigned to our shared services company which supports subsidiaries in 15 states across the USA as well as Washington D.C.
JOB DUTIES
- Provides guidance and training to Accountant I and Accountant II
- Prepare monthly borrowing base certification required by external lending institution
- Maintain and reconcile accurate schedules of prepaid assets
- Work collaboratively with IT department on inventory count and dissemination of computer laptop inventory
- Become Workday Fixed Asset Lead, quickly learning both the fixed assets and projects modules
- Manage and reconcile hundreds of subsidiaries transactions for employee benefits and employment taxes
- Calculate, through advanced MS Excel knowledge, and prepare automated and manual allocations of shared expenses across subsidiaries
- Streamline reoccurring manual journal entries
- Research complex Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), summarize key points, recommend associated accounting policies, entries or disclosures, and implement change
- Prepare complex monthly accounting including balance sheet review, closing entries, and financial reporting.
- Perform key account analyses and reconciliations, including the timely investigation and resolution of discrepancies and reconciling items Assess the cause of variances to improve forecasting Analyze financial results and variances, ensuring accuracy and completeness of the subsidiary general ledgers.
- Assist with internal and external requests as well as lead numerous special projects
- Exercise calm and courteous communication with key stakeholders
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field
- Three or more years of accounting experience
- Accounting certification (CPA) a plus
- Workday experience a plus
- Advanced MS Excel knowledge with familiarity with formulas, VLOOKUPs, and pivot tables
- Ability to successfully manage multiple tasks and meet short deadlines
- Self-motivated and strong work ethic
- Solid interpersonal and communication skills for interacting with accounting team and management
- Excellent critical thinker, analytical, organizational, and time management skills
- Strong attention to detail, specifically with allocations of shared services
- Overtime required for month-end and year-end close
The incumbent typically works in an office environment and uses a computer, telephone and other office equipment as needed to perform duties. The noise level in the work environment is typical of that of an office. Incumbent may encounter frequent interruptions throughout the workday. The employee is regularly required to sit, talk, or hear; frequently required to use repetitive hand motion, handle or feel, and to stand, walk, reach, bend or lift up to 20 pounds.
